  1. Crunchbang fan on HP 2133 Says:

Thank-you! Hmmm, why isn’t Ubuntu adding and OpenBox Window Manager distro (like CrunchBang) to their list of supported distros?

Will test the new 8.10.2 version soon on HP 2133. Thanks for CUPS fix (only need to add CUPS-PDF to complete). Does 8.10.2 have latest ALSA stuff (as netbooks of different kinds were having Ubuntu related issues with Microphones not working – and per many posts with different instructions most Microphone problems were fixing it with a total upgrade to the latest ALSA stuff – even to version 18a of ALSA was suggested by some)? Hmm, with Crunchbang 8.10.1 on HP 2133 – other only major issue was Webcam with Cheese was slow, didn’t get around to playing with those two fixes before I saw today that 8.10.2 was posted… and so, we will have to see what 8.10.2 does?

Most likely still have to play with the suggestions on this site to get some Ubuntu 8.10 related stuff up (HP 2133 external monitor, etc)… see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP2133 – link to Via driver for HP 2133 for Ubuntu 8.10 lists driver as beta still?

CrunchBang is the only LINUX to run on the HP 2133…

  2. Eric Amundson Says:

    Thanks Philip! Downloading now.

It’s exciting to see the #! community growing. :)

CrunchBang has transformed my laptop into a speed demon. It’s wonderful having more control over Linux install than one has with Gnome, which I also like, but which contains a lot of software I don’t use or especially like.

  3. Mark Hyde (gorem) Says:

In the middle of downloading this version now.

Will check it out in VirtualBox on our new iMac.

Previous version of CrunchBang just screams in a virtual machine. Heck even on my main desktop PC for that matter.

Hopefully 8.10.02 will be even better!! :)

  5. Boondox Says:

Is there a way to update 8.10.01 with the new 8.10.02 w/out reinstalling the newest version?

  6. corenominal Says:

@Boondox: There will be an update script/package available soon.

  7. HP 2133 user Says:

    1- Thanks for the updater
2- Hmmm, Is is me? Hmmm, did I miss where trash is (created then deleted abiword file and no trash bin showed up anywhere on the file manager (it was there in the file manager before in 8.10.1)? Where is the trash bin located now?

  8. Malcolm Bastien Says:

Loving the distro on my Asus Eee.

But let’s see a 64 bit build please!

  9. chipmunkproof Says:

You have really outdone yourself with this distro. I love the simplicity and power. Its beautiful!

  10. Richard Says:

I just loaded this on the Acer Aspire One and can’t believe how great it is! I’ve used eeebuntu and there’s no comparison. Thanks so much.

  11. Per Nordin Says:

    Asus 1000HG with 2GB RAM.

I d/l the CrunchEee ASUS Eee PC Edition (standard) and installed it to a USB drive last night.
(Just so there is no misunderstanding, I first created a start-up “live” USB and from there installed it to another USB)
The reason I installed it to a USB is for trial purposes and I dont want to mess up my functioning system on my HD (the pre-installed Win XP).
After the installation, I get GRUB loading error #21 and I cant boot from my HD!

What’s more is that I can’t boot from the Cruch-USB installation (!) (displaying only blinking underscore)
But I CAN boot from a Flash (4GB SDHC) on which I have EEEbuntu 3.0 or Puppy (from a 2GB SD Flash)…

I have previously done other such trial installations on USB or SD/SDHD with no problems and never had any problem booting from the HD with Win XP (which I do after each installation, just to check, before I boot again from the newly installed linux on USB or SD/HC (Puppy, Easypeasy, Ubuntu NBR, Mint, etc). It was now after installing Crunch that I no longer can boot from the HD and get the GRUB error #21.

The internal HD is still reachable (thank God) once I boot from e.g. Eeebuntu, so I could back up some files from it, and it is also visible in the Set-up, and can be chosen as boot drive, but from there on all I get when trying to boot from it is GRUB error #21.

From what I have gathered from looking in forums, this means that Crunch has for some solitarily inexplicable reason chosen to rewrite the MBR on my internal HD while installing to the USB. Or?

  12. vabhe Says:

    @Per Nordin
    grub error 21
same problem on a hp mini 2133 with CB 9.04.01!

    someone have found a solution?

  13. vabhe Says:

    sorry, corrected the mail address

  14. vabhe Says:

    @Per

You’ve to reset with grub the MBR
    Solution:
    boot from live cd/usb

    in terminal:
    sudo grub
and you pass in the grub mini bash
    grub>

    than
    grub>find /boot/grub/stage1

    and you’ll get something like
    (hd0,1)

it probably give different result for you

    than
    grub>root (hd0,1)
    grub>setup (hd0)
    quit

    and reboot
