Dr. Bunsen @ #!

The CrunchBang project has a new build server. Dr. Bunsen is a new VPS on Linode, running Debian Lenny. The server has been added to the CrunchBang Project’s small, but growing number of virtual and real private servers. This new server is being funded by the project’s use of Google AdSense, sales from our shop, contributions by our only commercial sponsor, R1Soft Linux Hot Copy, and by donations collected from generous donors within our community. A big thank you goes out to everyone who has contributed to the project, you are all stars!

More information about Dr. Bunsen can be read on the CrunchBang forums.

I Love your OS guys ! , are you going to build another one soon? based on lucid ?

  2. corenominal Says:

@JD, I am glad you love it! :)

FYI, work is currently taking place to convert CrunchBang to a Debian base.

  3. JD Says:

@corenominal , That is Great! Glad to see the project it alive and well :)
And Can’t wait!, Debian seems like a great idea for a base. Keep up the great work :D

    Hi from France ^^
Can’t wait to see crunchbang with a debian base!
    I love Crunchbang so much.

I’m anxious for that change from Ubuntu to Debian. Great move IMHO. Is there a place where we can follow a time line to a release date?

  6. corenominal Says:

@Ken, sorry, there is no release schedule in place, like Debian, it will very much be a case of “release when ready”. Having said that, I am hoping to have the first alpha images released later this week. I will post on the blog when it happens. :)

As a current Ubuntu user, I have been looking for a distro with openbox built-in. I just found out about Crunchbang Linux today & after reading the wikis, some reviews & looking @ some screenshots, I think I found the perfect distro. After reading the Ubuntu-To-Debian change, Im happier. Quick question: Will it be based on Debian testing or Stable?

  8. corenominal Says:

@LTNGNX, Statler will have its sources set to Squeeze. Squeeze is currently in testing, but the plan is to produce a stable version of Statler when Squeeze goes stable. Once this has been done, the plan is then to start work on producing the next version, based on the next Debian testing release. Hope this helps. :)

  9. AUser Says:

May I ask what the reason behind the change is?, I’d always thought ubuntu was a pretty nice distro.

  10. Chris Says:

Ubuntu is not pretty nice, it’s the best! :-) But ofc this is my personal opinion.

  11. Shiv Says:

    Hello,

I have come to love this distribution over other Linux based distributions, off late I have noticed that Crunchbang is slipping in popularity probably on account of (what I believe to be) late news on development or the development cycle itself. Having said that I would also like to say that I not being a programmer or a software engineer am not in a position to contribute .. nor do I have enough money, with a new addition to our family, to donate to your effort. I would request you to please keep this website updated with the latest news and probably set-up a section that allows people to get perhaps a monthly if not fortnightly news letter to keep all #!ers alive and loyal .. another idea could be to run a donation campaign perhaps .. something like “Wikipedia” did a few months back .. with people either donating their services or money ..

If you think I can be of any help please do let me know .. would appreciate it.

I would like to see this OS grow ..

    Best,

    Shiv
