Topic: Google Adsense on Firefox Start Page

For anyone who uses the default Firefox start page, you may notice the page has been updated to include a single Google Adsense unit. The unit has been included in the hope that any earnings from the unit may help to contribute towards CrunchBang's web hosting costs.

For anyone not aware, this website and supporting files are hosted on a VPS with Linode.com which is paid for by myself. I am committed to funding this project for the foreseeable future and the current monthly costs are manageable; however, it would be nice to try and find some revenue streams to alleviate the personal cost, more so given the current financial climate.

I hope the decision to include these adverts does not offend too many community members. For what it is worth, I have been checking the content of adverts and thankfully they do appear to be targeted towards Linux users.

Anyhow, please do feel free to post any comments about this, your feedback and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Google Adsense on Firefox Start Page

Hello Philip!

I think it is a perfectly fine and good idea to do that - somewhere the money has to come from, and even though you said you are committed to fund the project for the foreseeable future, there might be members of the community out there that not only would like to donate their time and skills, but maybe help out with hosting costs or something like that, and therefore I was just wondering if you had ever thought about a PayPal donations widget-thingamachig or if I am maybe just too blind to find it on the page.

Reality is just a bunch of illusion...

Re: Google Adsense on Firefox Start Page

If any users have a real issue with it, they are more than capable of using AdBlock Plus, but since you have put this advert block on that home page, I'm going to start using that home page and disable adblock for that page.

Granted, I save sessions a lot of the time, but the point stands in that I might generate some revenue for #!

LMAO big_smile

I supposed there is a danger of some more dubious keyword-related content creeping in.

Re: Google Adsense on Firefox Start Page

So does going to the homepage make money, searching, or both?

I'm also looking for this button? Can't find it...

/Edit: I was searching and found this thread, I hope it is the right one to ask.

please don't, that violates the AdSense rules, even if you aren't anything to do with Philip. (I think)

Re: Google Adsense on Firefox Start Page

Thanks for the heads up, but I am curious, how does the whole thing work?

I hope nobody minds, but I am closing this thread so as not to endanger violating Google's terms and conditions. If anyone has any queries about the program or its application on this website, please send me a personal message. Thank you for your understanding. smile
