EDIT:  Still struggling with the wifi (not software, just hardware mad ) but went ahead and tried while waiting for the system to reconnect again & again.  Since all I'm really concerned about (obsessed with?) right now is the CPU temp, all I needed was

CPU temp: ${if_existing /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0/temp2_input}${hwmon 0 temp 1}${else}${hwmon 1 temp 1}${endif}

But I know what to add if I decide I need to track the mobo & GPU as well.

I saw mepeachy's post and it's definitely a better solution to the request.  I don't use hwmon so I didn't realize that is may not always be the same or that there wouldn't be any temp2 files inder certain conditions.

Let us know how you make out.

What happens is you just add:

TEXT
${mixerbar}

Also you might want to set the size with the default bar command

default_bar_size 150 20
TEXT
mixerbar:
 ${mixerbar}
mixerbar 'Master':
 ${mixerbar 'Master'}

@ mrpeachy, thank for the input!

I had been using acpitemp on my netbook, but...
a. it doesn't work on my new desktop, and
b. it's deprecated in Testing and Unstable.

Not only did I have no idea that there would be no temp2 file (if you think about it and know what to look for, it makes sense that there wouldn't be one if there's only one temp sensor for a given interface), I didn't know this information would actually be found in files; I thought it would be either in a system register or read directly from the sensors "on demand".  (Apparently, I also don't realize that the length of parenthetical text should not exceed that of the main text...)

So far, it looks like $if_existing is doing what I want it to do. cool

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

It's hard to find something if you don't know what you're looking for.
I have a blog, it's mostly about conky and lua stuff... go here.

Does anyone know how to make a conky overlap like the clock on the left?

Look to the $voffset function !
Example :

${font FreeSans:size=60}${color Ivory}${time %H}
${voffset -150}
${color DeepSkyBlue}${time %M}

You can have a look to theses examples too :

Right, mention LUA, or bash for that matter, and I shrivel up real fast like.

Off topic question - what are you involved in these days?

Welcome back wlourf... really good to see you.

You're right .., voffsets can create some nice displays...

${voffset 45}${font monospace:bold:size=9}${color2}TIME${font} ${color6}${hr}
${goto 30}${voffset 0}${font LCDMono:bold:size=35}${color}${time %H}${voffset -14}${font LCDMono:bold:size=20}:${time %M}
${font LCDMono:bold:size=10}${goto 97}${voffset -15}${time %S}${font}

What happens is you just add:

When I use ${mixerbar} on its own I get:

conky: mixer.c:841: snd_mixer_handle_events: Assertion `mixer' failed.

I just added ${mixerbar 'Master Front'} as thats at the top of the list on amixer, Although it returned the same error as above.

I have the feeling I went through this not to long ago.  It, if memory serves correctly, depends on whick mixer you are using.
But I may be wrong on that - it happens a LOT!
I'll search and see what I can find.

Re: Conky Help

I am not sure how I fixed it lol but it is working. I am using a lua script for my mixerbar. Any who wants to add a volume mixerbar to their lua script here is the code.

{
    name='mixer',                arg='Master Front',                      max_value=100,
    x=40,                          y=542,
    graph_radius=24,
    graph_thickness=5,
    graph_start_angle=180,
    graph_unit_angle=2.7,          graph_unit_thickness=2.7,
    graph_bg_colour=0xffffff,      graph_bg_alpha=0.3,
    graph_fg_colour=0x111111,      graph_fg_alpha=0.5,
    hand_fg_colour=0xFFFFFF,       hand_fg_alpha=1.0,
    txt_radius=34,
    txt_weight=0,                  txt_size=8.0,
    txt_fg_colour=0xFFFFFF,        txt_fg_alpha=1.0,
    graduation_radius=23,
    graduation_thickness=0,        graduation_mark_thickness=2,
    graduation_unit_angle=27,
    graduation_fg_colour=0xFFFFFF, graduation_fg_alpha=0.5,
    caption='',
    caption_weight=1,              caption_size=8.0,
    caption_fg_colour=0xFFFFFF,    caption_fg_alpha=0.3,
},

Will need editing though

Re: Conky Help

Hi
i am still new to this conky thing and linux in general
this is my desktop right now
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd164/string-ray/2011-08-09--1312905823_1680x1050_scrot.png

i have two instances of conky on start up
my main problem is with the gmail calender first off it takes like 10 minutes for google calender to load and during that wait time it says the error "failed to authenticate"
the gmail calender also randomly turns on and off

the first instance of conky is for the top right corner panel
i got it from this link...
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=141007

the second instance of conky is just for google calender
to put the google calender in conky i follwed these instructions exactly
http://ubuntuguide.net/display-google-c … sing-conky

so my questions are...
how do i fix this long wait time?
and should i only need to run one instance of conky? how would i go about doing this???

Welcome to #!, conky and Linux in general.
Nice looking setup

No idea how to fix the long wait time, it looks like "gcalcli" is the guilty party here.

As to running two conkys that's not a problem, and in this instance probably for the best.

I don't know that script at all, but you may want to look at Conky Google Calendar Python Script.  At least Mark is available for help there.  The deb packages work fine with Statler - grab the Hardy version.
