Unfortunately laptops are very proprietary and fixing something on them is near impossible.
even if you find a "homegrown" solution, you may damage other parts simply because laptops are sooo packed together and in all honesty- you wont know what you are looking at because the laptop's scematics are locked in a vault somewhere at the manufactures warehouse.
However, I do hope you find a workable solution and i afford you the best of luck.
I think you would have to replace the motherboard (thats what the USB connectors are attached to right?).
If you really need USB ports, Im sure theres PCMCIA or ExpressCards you can use.
anoymus- you cant replace a laptop motherboard, they are not sold to the public (or anyone for that matter) and evey laptop has a diffrent motherboard that SPECIFFICALLY fits that exact case

You never know, maybe youll get lucky and someone is selling it on eBay.
Ive already found a mobo. Luckily my lappy is so old they are almost commonplace now
There are also common form-factor laptop motherboards and cases and junk, specifically for those who want to build their own (though they are very pricey, so you don't hear much about it).
If you wanted to replace the broken USB, you'd have to see how it is connected to the motherboard, and find a similar unit, hoping you can just solder it back in place.
Well this is only a temperary laptop anyway. Im waiting for my 'local tech store' to get a new shipment of these wifi cards with built in usb dont know the name
Edit: a quick google search turned up around 20 places that sell laptop motherboards here in cali. New and Used
