Topic: #! Lite and ATI drivers

Lovin' #!, but I'm havin' a couple troubles.  When I go to restricted drivers, it shows the ATI drivers there, but when I click to activate it pops up the loading dialogue then goes away within a second.  After restarting, it says I have ATI Catalyst installed but the driver isn't activated. 

Also (and because of the above, I think) I get a couple video glitches. 

1) Sometimes if multiple windows are showing and I'm alt-tabbing between them, the one I alt-tab to will disappear and only show the shadow.  I either have to alt-tab to another window and back, or grab the mouse and move it.

2) Somewhat related to the first, alt-tabbing while watching flash videos will sometimes cause the video to disappear and I can see my wallpaper through the browser.  Again, alt-tabbing a few times fixes it.

So, my question is, any idea why the drivers aren't installing?  And if the two things above aren't related to that, any idea how to fix 'em?

Sorry to read that you have been experiencing troubles with your graphics card. I could be totally wrong, but I think there maybe a required package missing from the current "Lite" release candidate. Please can you try installing the following package before trying again:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic

Ah, that worked.  The bugs seem to be gone, too.  I still get white flashes during full screen video, though.  Know of any solution for that?

Good stuff, I am glad it worked. smile I will add the package to the build script for future releases. Regarding the white flashes, what type of media is it and what player are you using?

Adult Swim Video is the only one I know of that flickers, Hulu and others seem to work fine.  It works fine is compositing is disabled, though. hmm

I have the same problem w/ pretty much all video if I have compositing enabled (conky flickers from behind the window). I just run 'killall xcompmgr' whenever I'm going to watch something.

I had the same problem in Intrepid w/ Compiz, though, too--I read somewhere that it's a bug in the ATI driver. Take that for what it's worth, though.
