Topic: Application Startup's

Maybe someone can help me with a few problems I'm having with openbox and its autostart etc. Ok first problem is I'm used to loading backgrounds immediately from GDM to desktop with Gnome. So that there is no change of wallpaper or flicker. With openbox this is obviously delayed with a black screen. My way around this for the time being has been to add the background to be loaded to the GDM PostLogin config.

Also openbox takes alot of time to autostart processes, like for me I would like to basically load things in this order:
Wallpaper
Conky
Panel
Tray
Openbox

With this order it kind of gives a fake sense of immediate desktop usage. Everything appears instantly. My problem is I cant do this with autostarting apps from openbox's autostart. So I'm wondering if any users know how I could basically create my own xsession or run these apps before openbox loads and then load openbox without any autostarts.

Basically by default upon login I sit at a blackscreen and maybe 5 secs later everything loads. But theres really no need for this at all. I should be able to load everything instantly since it does thru anything I pipe into the GDM PostLogin. Problem with GDM PostLogin though is the processes are started as root, which is obviously not what I want at all.

Re: Application Startup's

Hmm ..... I have the black screen issue here as well.

In other and older distros, you would use a .xinitrc in your home directory to do this.

I've never tried it with a ubuntu based distro before, and don't know if it will work.

But as far as I recall this would interfere with your GDM session, because .xinitrc should be called by startx command from CLI.
