well that might b the disclaimer, but only problems i've ever reeeeally had have been pebcak. smile  as stable as the big boys in my experience.

I've been running CrunchBang 9.04.01 for a while now and I'm very pleased with it indeed.

I've just downloaded emelfm2 and was trying to launch it from openbox with alt/f, rather than what's there now
I followed some instructions which started with
    cp /etc/xdg/openbox/menu.xml ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml
Unfortunately I now have a subset of menu.xml compared to what was there previously and see that this isn't going to do the alt/f thing anyway.

Could some kind soul...
a) please post the original ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml file so I can restore it. (I did try to download the torrent from piratebay in the hope that it would be sources but the site seems down)
b) tell me how I get the emelfm2 filemanager to launch with alt/f

not the right thread for this, but look in /etc/skel/.config/openbox/menu.xml

It is better the say nothing and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

When are you going to take down the "not stable" disclaimer? I have been using #! for maybe 6 months flat out now. It's on all my machines, including the one at work. The only time anything broke was when I system-upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10. Bad move.

#! is the most stable distro I have used, bar none (including Solaris and BSD).

Btw... any idea why ram usage is suddenly high (idling 200+)? I have a feeling something connected to system update.

You can use htop to check what processes are using the most memory.

A follow-up... top shows Xorg is eating up the memory. A little hunting around shows this appears to be an old problem with Xorg.

I am really pleased that you have found CrunchBang to be stable. I guess the reason I keep the disclaimer as it is, is because what works for one machine/system, may not work for another. Also, it means I can sleep at night. big_smile

Personnaly I had some repair to do 2-3 times because it doesn't want to start anymore and checkdisck didn't want to work. It asked me my password and it doesn't worked. I tried also my password as if I had a qwerty keyboard nothing appens. I had to launch a live session and fix it from there.

I would like to support the OP sentiment.

I now have #! as my default distro on my laptop, my eeepc, my work PC, my two sons' laptops (ancient ex-work laptops) and am currently trying to persuade my wife to make it a clean sweep but she is married to her old Windows 2000 laptop.  I am hoping that booting the next version from USB will change her mind.

I have been using linux since Red Hat 5.1 and find your distro to be solid as a rock; really quick on old spec machines; very easy to maintain and can be hacked to look like whatever my kids want.

@Nicky - it was probably asking for your root password however Ubuntu has root disabled. You can easily enable root by doing "sudo passwd root" and then enter the password you want.
