I have been playing with it, Seems to work really good. In my opinion just as good as Photoshop.
I never tried it myself though it has been featured on Lifehacker:

I like the Gimp like menus and real time application of effects. I think I'll probably use this quite a bit.

I present SumoPaint to my students (in a vocational school) after familiarizing with Gimp. I use it also as an example of a rich internet application.
Most students try Sumo also at home, but eventually install Gimp on their home computers.
