Topic: HAL CPU spike on netbooks - solution

For those of us still using #! 9.04.1, I'm sure some of you have noticed that CPU usage spikes every few seconds, even with the system idling.  This is apparently a known issue at the Ubuntu forums, and it has a simple solution:  downgrade HAL and lock it.  This is most easily done in Synaptic.  ("Force Version" and "Lock Version" are both in the Package menu.)

This might coax a few more minutes out of our batteries and let the CPU run a little cooler.
