Topic: Error at step "Install system"

I'm installing from a USB, as told by http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation

I didn't get any question "Load CD-ROM drivers from removable media?", so I needed to go to the shell in the Debian installation program and manually mount /dev/sdX to /cdrom:
mount /dev/sdX /cdrom

Everything works well until the step "Install the system" after partitioning the hard-discs.

It tells me it failed and I should redo the step, I don't get any information of what the actual problem is.

There is no difference between choosing normal or live install.

Can this be some sort of a problem because I manually mounted /dev/sdX on /cdrom?

PS.
I noticed ipw2200-bss.fw was required to get the network work on my laptop. So I needed to download this file on an USB and use it from there. This should be added to the distro.
DS.

Re: Error at step "Install system"

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry you are having issues with the USB install. sad I am almost sure there will be some USB specific images for the next alpha. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the issues people have been facing with USB installs.

Regarding the wireless firmware for the installer, a working network connection is not needed to perform the install as it is all self-contained. Once the install has been performed, the ipw2200 firmware should be installed and working. Hmm, maybe this needs to be made a bit clearer for when people download CrunchBang?

I was able to install my wireless driver from a flashdrive during installation.
I new i needed it because the live CD didnt see it,,Or my broadband card.
But after it installed it read both Wireless and Sprint Card.

Is it as easy to install the driver after install if needed,,As it was to do it from the usb during installation?

I guess its just one more thing to add to the Wiki....For an Alpha ,,This is pretty stable and havent run into any major issues as were my 10.04 beta crash reports are every other minute,,,LOL

If CrunchBang had a crash reporting system, I am sure it would rival Ubuntu's in terms of crashes per minute! big_smile

Yes, i noted that with my wireless, i just told the installer not to configure it yet, and then when i was greeted with the installed desktop it worked.
And it seems not too many people realize you dont need internet for the install. I would suggest definitely highlighting this feature.

Re: Error at step "Install system"

Hehe, no probs corenominal, I'm really looking forward to everything about crunchbang and it is all because of you, thanks you so very much!

Instead of twisting and turning the Crunchbang installation from USB up and down all the day, I tried install Debian, it worked fine, but it also didn't include the ipw2200 firmware, so now I understand, I think we (dare I speak for others) are quited spoiled with Ubuntu.
