Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" Alpha 1 Released

(I don't know anything about any of this but):

Booting took an extra few seconds at the MTA: exim4 part on my desktop today.  Googled it, it mentioned it's the mailer, so I went to this link from 2006 to see if I can speed it up.

http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-List … 01374.html

sudo dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config

Then in the middle questions I changed the Dial-on-Demand question from no to yes, which sounds like shall make it more minimal so faster.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" Alpha 1 Released

Is there anyone else that has been having problems after updating the last couple of days? Did a big update yesterday. I am thinking of vlc and the archive mananger which has behaved strange and when I come to think about it I had problems logging out for changing session earlier today, the screen went just black, and then nothing happened. Hmm maybe it is time to start waiting for the next alpha. big_smile

Last week in fact, VLC video stopped working, something about no suitable modules, tried the usual fixes, didn't work.
Frequent Network crashes too, and Prt Scr key stopped working. Time for a reinstall. And i am guessing it will be some more time before the Beta is released.

That is why i say, always dual boot, no! not with Windows you silly! Another one of your favorite flavors, mine's Mint.  lol

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" Alpha 1 Released

I've been taking the updates fairly regularly, every day or every other day.  I've not had any issues.  None.  neutral

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" Alpha 1 Released

Of course, i have to admit that i have been rough-riding the distro, tried all sorts of stuff with it "willy-nilly"...but i had a good ride, now nothing to do but wait for the Beta. big_smile

The latest rounds of updates included a new kernel, and it doesn't do wifi out of the box.  I haven't yet had a chance to plug into a hardline yet, so I don't know if this can be fixed by reinstalling the Broadcom blob or not; I'm just using the older kernel for now.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Do you mean in general or just for Broadcom? I have no wifi issues with this kernel.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" Alpha 1 Released

^ Just Broadcom.  I'm on a wired connection right now to see if the auto-updates will pull in what the BCMwhatever card needs; if it doesn't, I'll run through the Debian howto again.

UPDATE:  I just ran through the wifi howto here again, and the new kernel is now Broadcom STA friendly.  I'm not sure weather it was simply a matter of installing the headers for the new kernel (automagically happened with the m-a a-i step) or if everything from step 3-6 was actually required, but my wireless card is happy.

I can confirm that the "sudo m-a a-i broadcom-sta" step suffices.

I also installed the linux-headers-2.6-686 meta-package. This automatically pulls in the headers for kernel updates, preventing the annoying problem of needing a temporary wired connection.
