Topic: Crunchbang lite or Crunchee for Acer netbook?

Hi,

I just discovered Crunchbang after looking for a netbook compatible linux distro to install on my new Acer Aspire One 533 netbook. I noticed that posts related to Crunchee have virtually stopped in 2009 after perusing the forum here. It seems like on the main downloads page that the available iso's are standard, statl and lite...

Could anyone tell me if Crunchee is still an active project/still being supported? (It seems as if it isn't)
Also, (whether or not crunchee is still active) Which version of #! would be a good choice for a netbook, if any?

Thanks! I'm really hoping that there's a solution here since #! looks very appealing. At some point I'd hope to be able to pitch in on the development side as welll smile

Re: Crunchbang lite or Crunchee for Acer netbook?

I don't think the Cruncheee version is still active, but I do know that in the Tips & tricks forum there's a topic on how to install #! on an EEE. You can take a look there:

Also there's not much difference between Lite and regular, it's only the software that comes with it - in Lite, there's mostly lightweight software installed whereas in regular, the more heavier stuff comes in. Take a look here:

Now for the question "9.04 or Statler 10?". Again, there's no much difference, except for 9.04 is Ubuntu based and 10 is Debian based. Even though 10 is in Alpha phase, it's stable enough for everyday use.

Hope that covers it all, happy crunching!

Let's do it and don't screw it.

Re: Crunchbang lite or Crunchee for Acer netbook?

Hi Amoeba, the future of the project is CrunchBang 10 "Statler" currently in its Alpha 2 release. 8.10 has reached its "end of life" and is no longer supported; 9.04 will follow suit in October. Therefore I would recommend the Debian-based Alpha release for a new user such as yourself. It will be a much easier transition to the final release (and also a great way to help with development by reporting your experiences here).

Re: Crunchbang lite or Crunchee for Acer netbook?

I ordered an Acer Aspire One Netbook with the AMD-64 processor . . . the 2nd Generation of Netbooks.

I plan to install #!Statler /Openbox ... before I even open the pre-installed W7.

I think, I'll keep W7 in a dual-boot with #! . . . until I get the Wireless and Wifi going.

Of course, I shall be making several comments and reviews about AAO and #! . . . and a few questions, too.  tongue
