Topic: Mouse escapes window in FPS games

Hi:

I've been playing Urban Terror and World of Padman on my laptop. They are fun, but pretty much once every gaming session I have the same problem. All of a sudden, the mouse "escapes" the window. By that I mean, if I'm running the game in, say, a 1024x768 window, I'll move the mouse to, say, turn my character to the left, when all of a sudden the character stops moving and the mouse cursor suddenly appears to the left of the window on the desktop. If I move the mouse to the right, the cursor goes back to the window, then disappears, then my character turns to the right. Keep going, and the same thing happens on the other side of the window. Playing in fullscreen doesn't fix it, either, as when the problem occurs, the game suddenly snaps out of fullscreen into a window, and the mouse "escapes." Needless to say, it's basically impossible to play at this point, and I can't even issue commands to get out of the game, forcing me to Alt+F4 it. This problem occurs whether I run the game in console or not.

I'm running the latest !# to come out before Statler (forget the version number). I have an integrated ATI card with the latest drivers. Both games run PERFECTLY otherwise, so I'd be surprised if it was a hardware problem. I'm at a loss to figure out what causes it, or how to fix it. I checked the FAQs, documentation, and tech support forums for both games, and so far no one seems to know how to fix it (still got threads going over there, so anything's possible I guess). I also Googled the issue and got no help there. Has anyone ever run into this problem?

EDIT: forgot to mention, I've never installed Compiz. Is Metacity the default?

Hmm. I only run games in Full Screen, I know windowed users usually do that for a reason, but perhaps the temporary solution is to run only in full screen?

That was when I first noticed the problem, actually. It jumped from fullscreen into a window, then the same problem with the cursor "escaping." Seems to happen no matter what.
