Topic: My feedback : Crunchbang Statler - for dummies ^^

Hi brothers and sisters big_smile

I just want to give my feedback about our wonderful distro, I'm pretty sure that it won't interest a lot of people but I want to share my love (hey, I'm speaking like an hippy !).

It's almost for non-crunchbangers but who are interested into this distro.

But before all, please forgive me if reading me is difficult, I'm french, I have a quite good school english, but I know that my english is not truely very good for daily speaking. So don't beat me to the death x)

PART I - The Child

I am quite a noob yet with GNU/Linux.

I've tried during those last 4years to use Ubuntu, Debian, Mandriva, Suse, and Fedora. I'm not an expert but I've always wanted to learn a maximum about Linux, and months after months my hate against Windows was growing incredibly.

I've really step into Linux last year, with Ubuntu 9.04 - 9.10 and this year with 10.04, and a bit with Debian Lenny on a old computer.

I won't discredit Ubuntu, it's the main distro for beginners I think, it's the base.

But Canonical' politic and Ubuntu' design are disgusting me, I don't know if you know what I mean.

And Crunchbang was like a charming busty Milf in very short skirt and high heels crossing legs front of me again and again big_smile (are you excited too now?) - I was hypnotized and very tempted !! (I've customed my Lucid Lynx to looks like Crunchbang in July, see my DA !)

I've tried before #! v9 but I had some screen problems so I've gave up for a moment.

And I've definitely joined you about a month ago, with Statler Alpha2.

PART II - The Teenager

I was quite disturbed at the beginning.

After all, I was now on Debian with a lot of mods, and configuring a customised distro like that in an other language with being a beginner is not easy.

But after several researches and help from you and other people, I have to say that I can configuring easily my Crunchbang.

I'm not a Jedi Master yet ^^ but I learn everyday (sometimes I crash my system) and it's a huge pleasure, believe me !!

PART III - The Adult

I can't write this part right now, because I'm not adult yet in Crunchbang world.

But I'll be an adult one day with the help of my family, I mean you, Crunchbangers. smile

---

To conclude : Windows users, Mac users, user-friendly Linux distros users, don't be afraid !! Come here, have a try, and fall in love like I did !!

The beginnings could be a bit difficult, but Crunchbang is a pleasure to learn, and this community is the best that I've ever seen.

So, if Richard Stallman agree, I will finish my topic by singing :

"Join us now and fall in love, you'll be glad dreamers, you'll be glad..."

---

PS : thanks to the community, to the contributors of GNU/Linux since the beginnings, and thanks to Philip, a.k.a. Corenominal.
PS 2 : I'm not high.
PS 3 : no no, I'm not paid to write topics like this x)

Nice topic smile
Exactly how i feel!

I once installed gentoo. It asked me for a sacrifice and would not install itself unless I gave him my neighbor's first born and my best bottle of Whiskey.  -Awebb 2011

Thanks bobobex smile

I always think with my heart, and after with my brain big_smile

I would like to tell more and more about my feels and in order to bring more people in our world but as I said it's difficult in a foreign language.
About this, I was wondering if someday we could create something like an international section with dedicated "mini-forums" for each proposed country.
I don't know if it's possible but it would be great for helping and sharing better.

Re: My feedback : Crunchbang Statler - for dummies ^^

@DarthWound - There is no internation forum section, but there are several French speaking around here including ADComp, arpinux, and Kookaburra.

Also you can post your message in both French and English if you think it would help.

Oh and very nice review smile

Re: My feedback : Crunchbang Statler - for dummies ^^

Thanks for the review ^^

Yes I know those members on Ubuntu forum or Deviant-Art, and I know that there is no section like this, I was asking if it is possible one day to create something like this.

Or maybe me and the other french #!ers could create a very simple french forum beside this one, the official ?

I don't know, that's just an idea smile

@DarthWound Very nice post. It's very nice for me to read other beginners being so excited like me about GNU/Linux and #!.
