Topic: statler 1 curious sound problem

Sound worked great with 9.04.  Sound works great with #! live cd.  Sound has worked before with this install but after misc reboots sound will give up.  I have followed the steps here:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -no-sound/ using the instructions layed out at the Ubuntu forums many times with success MOST of the time.

sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

When nothing was consistent I started playing around with options.  After entering the above, I rebooted and opened MOC and started some music.  Nothing thru the sound card, nothing thru the headphones but I hear the music and it sounds like a very "tin-y" am radio very low.  I wasn't sure I heard it so I got down close to the computer tower and could definitely hear the music.

Does this trigger any ideas for solutions for anyone?

Re: statler 1 curious sound problem

ive been reading the how tos and the wiki for a day now and still i cnt mke my HP mini output a sound... weird thing is there is a ton of how tos in here but i cnt fix my sound problem.

if there is a fix on hp mini sound problem i cn rean here? i have sound when i connect an earphones but no sounds on speaker...

Re: statler 1 curious sound problem

I got the same problem.
Its related to the ALSA drivers (realtek alc887). It wont work with my output jacks and so it will go to a "default" mode. However I got some sound trough the speakers.

I found a work arround by buying a cheap 3d sound usb plug.

Now I know this aint a solution to get things in your machine to work but I am glad I got normal sound again...

Note: this cheap solution gives me "cheap" sound but always better then the mono pc speaker.. tongue
