Topic: Problems Installing 9.04

I tried to install #! on my home PC this morning, on a new 1 TB WD Green HDD. It got 5% through the partition process and stopped. I thought it might me a dodgy drive, so tried another new HDD of the same size and brand, with the same results. I've Googled for compatibility issues but can't find anything.

I know the install disc is fine because I've used it to install #! on a work PC, and it'll also boot to the Live environment on the home PC I am having issues with.

Any ideas?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

Give it time. The community here is very nice and helpful, they'll come with a solution.

I'm not sure what the problem can be, but maybe it's the IDE/SATA thing with harddrives? (Mind that I don't even know what the difference is, I only know this can cause issues like this one)

Let's do it and don't screw it.

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

Sorry - getting impatient - had hoped to get this sorted before I went to bed!

I'm convinced that it's a compatibility issue, I just don't understand what the exact problem is, and whether anything can be done about it.

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

Can you partition the drive manually using GParted?

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

I have no idea, I haven't tried. I'll have a go and report back. It shouldn't be necessary though should it? Annoyingly, the latest Ubuntu partitioner works without difficulty! Besides which, the #! partitioner works with other drives.  The partitioner shouldn't be doing anything differently than one could do manually. I'm going to drive a different drive in my home PC, I have a 750 GB Hitachi laying around somewhere...

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

No, GParted hangs as well - it's clearly a problem with this specific model of drives and the CB formatting software. Other than use a different type of drive, what else can be done? The full Ubuntu installer has no issue with these drives, so it's clearly something CB specific.

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

Try installing #! 10, 9.04 will be out of support soon anyway

Let's do it and don't screw it.

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

I get exactly the same problem. It's frustrating. I've tried the Ubuntu 10.10 Beta, and that works perfectly. WTF is the problem? Arrrrrgh!

@ the mad rapper
If you are brave enough to try a ubuntu beta maybe you can also try the CrunchBang 10 alpha 2 as unia pointed out  (it might surprisingly be just as stable as a beta of other idstros smile) Many people here are using it happily. for more info:

(and what do you mean "i get the same problem"? YOU posted this in the first place)

Re: Problems Installing 9.04

Can you use Gparted on the Ubuntu Live CD to format the drive, and then install #! to the pre-existing partitions?
