Topic: Eee-control

Has anyone tried to install eee-control on Statler?
I tried with the Ubuntu debs, but there are some issues. The main one is that eee-control depends on upstart-job. Statler chooses upstart instead of upstart-job. But there is a conflict with upstart and sysvinit. Apt-get is giving me some warnings, and I haven't got the guts to go on. So I turn to our wonderful community.

Re: Eee-control

Ohh, found my old thread.
I felt brave today, so I removed sysvinit, installed upstart instead (upstart-job is a part of upstart). Rebooted and then installed the eee-control ubuntu deb.
Seems to be working just fine. At least, my Eee is running more silent now. That's what I wanted Eee-control for.
Oh yeah, you'll have to remove eeepc-acpi-scripts, if you have that installed.

Re: Eee-control

Might Jupiter be better? I don't know about Statler, but it works fine w/ peppermint ice.

Re: Eee-control

GuruX, thanks a lot for this hack, I proceeded to the letter -which included installing the Gimp to get the libraries- and it worked very swiftly !!

Re: Eee-control

When I tried installing the eee-control or Jupiter to statler, the install failed and then threw error messages every time I tried to install anything else. Would the sysvinit/upstart thing cause that? (it was pretty much vanilla statler)

Re: Eee-control

Here is the link to webupd8 page on the ppa install instructions for Jupiter. Fewt  the developer) also has a link on his blog.

Re: Eee-control

Had some trouble with Eee-control today. Was about to do a dist-upgrade, but it for some reason wanted to install sysvinit (and remove upstart) again. Ok, let's do it I though. So I was about to remove Eee-control to do the update. But then removing Eee-control didn't work out. So after a while, I re-downloaded Eee-control and reinstalled it. Then i could remove upstart and do the dist-upgrade. Corrupt Eee-control install perhaps? Seemed to be running fine...

Tried to install jupiter, but I coudn't get it to run. About to put Eee-control back on my Eee 900.

Jupiter seems to be a part of another debian based distro, Eeebuntu. They also moved from Ubuntu to Debian as base. The project is now called Aurora. If we're lucky, Jupiter might run straight off their repos. Have to check it out some day.

Re: Eee-control

Bump? smile

How's it working out for you guys? I'm trying to create an Asus eee 900hd-fit installation of #! but I don't have that computer handy so it would be great to hear some success stories... Isn't both Ubuntu and Debian supposed to work well with eee's out of the box nowadays though?

Re: Eee-control

I'm running eee-control with workarounds right now. Quite often, I have to manually apt-get remove eee-control to do dist-upgrade. Upstart is removed by dist-upgrade.  After dist-upgrade, I reinstall upstart and then eee-control. An important step is to NOT reboot your computer before upstart is reinstalled.

And the autostart of eee-control-daemon isn't working. So I'm doing that in a terminal after booting the computer.

It's not great with the workarounds, but it is working.

Re: Eee-control

I must say that while eee-control is great for managing the keys, wifi and CPU frequency, it cannot master the fan.

So on Alpha 2 I did not setup eee-control, I installed fancontrol an spufrequtils in order to have as low noise on my 901A as possible while keeping the CPU not too hot.

I managed
0 rpm at 50°C - (most current condition, with Wifi, Iceweasel and Terminator etc. on,while on my lap and with air  intakes free)
750 rpm at 55°C, bumping to
1000rpm at 60°C, which is reached only after 100% load for some time, or watching a movie in the bed with the duvet over both me and the netbook - my lady needs some dark to sleep ;-)

Re: Eee-control

Alright, onto this again.
Downloaded Jupiter from sourceforge and installed the deb.
Bad news! Well, it seems to work just fine, but it's based on mono! No good. So a lot of mono deps is pulled in, and the command for starting it is jupiter.exe. I really don't like that extension...
It does some cool things like rotation of screen, but that's about it. Alright, back to square one.
