Topic: Speedy Resume from Suspend

Just a bit of bragging on CrunchBang. smile

I'm quite happy with how quickly it suspends and resumes on my Dell Inspiron laptop and have clocked #!s resume speed at 4 to 5 seconds.  Amazing!

So far, I haven't run across any OS or distro that resumes so quickly.

Blimey, that is pretty quick! I have never had much luck with suspend and resume on my own systems, it has always been a bit hit'n'miss. sad Although having said that, I tend to my systems running 24/7, so it is not a big issue. Still, it is good to know it works for you! smile

Re: Speedy Resume from Suspend

Yeah, I just tested the Hibernate, which also works fine, but it's about 55 seconds to resume.  I had a heck of a time with both suspend and resume a few years ago, but since then, it's been getting much better, at least in Ubuntu.

Re: Speedy Resume from Suspend

Yes, the suspend recovery is excellent - but one thing amazes and puzzles me even more, and that is that it has to suspend the computer into a different state than winXP does. Sometimes I don't use my eee901 for days, and with winXP booted and suspended it is usually dead and shuts off after 4 days. Under cruncheee I still have about 50% capacity left!

Re: Speedy Resume from Suspend

Zaxxon, that is strange.  Since suspend actually writes to RAM, could it be that less RAM is powered when you suspend #!?  Or, maybe more accurately, the ram takes less power?

Would love to hear corenominal weigh in on this.

Re: Speedy Resume from Suspend

I was attributing it to winXP possibly leaving other things powered on that cruncheee might not. I will have to make sure, but one thing that always struck me as odd on the eee was that when I suspend the machine (at least under winXP - have to check #!) the USB ports are still powered on, because if I plug in my CDMA modem, it actually lights up even when the computer is still suspended. Considering that e.g. the webcam hangs on an internal USB, who knows what else might be drawing power that #! might disable!

Ah, interesting.  I'm surprised that USB ports are still powered during a suspend.

Re: Speedy Resume from Suspend

Me too...it's the first computer I have seen that with. There was a topic over at the eee forums - some actually see it as a convenient thing as an emergency cell phone charger while the machine is suspended tongue
