Sadly, a blatant theft of a classic BBC April Fools video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dfWzp7rYR4

I'm staving off replacing my Asus EEE PC 701, as I'm eagerly awaiting either the Mouse Computer or the Asus EEE PC 1004DN. I love the portability of netbooks, but with an internal DVD-writer, that'll seal the deal for me.
And of course, if they can increase the resolution rather than the standard 1024x600, that would be great.
What's the 'Mouse Computer'?
Also, I disagree about the internal DVD writer. That has to take up a lot of space, and I have never once missed having one. USB ports are a good substitute on a small device, IMO.
I do miss having a number-pad though! I'm tempted to buy one. Here's a free idea for a manufacturer: A portable (bluetooth?) num-pad that is also a calculator and remote for the PC (video/audio controls), and a USB hub. Maybe a DVD writer too, but that might make the unit too large.
Sorry to drone on about this, but for the record: An alternate piece of software is not really a solution. Especially given that it would install a ton of KDE junk on my tiny Eee PC.
For the record I don't have animation, transparency, or anything fancy going on at all. I like Tilda very much, and would have no issues with it, were it not for this fault. ![]()
I know it wouldn't be light weight like the rest of crunchbang but I want a better animation for a quake style terminal, like lowering in from the top or something (See Visor for OS X). Anything like that out there?
--Matt
Tilda does that. I didn't turn it on. Transparency also started working for me after my first 'big crash', so you know. ![]()
No one have any suggestions for me?
I like it! Very futuristic. A little Star Trekky. ![]()
Nice font. Do you have renders of #! as well?
Not to speak for Dale, but I suspect he was wondering if you had done the #! symbols for this particular typeface.
I installed Tilda, and it pretty quickly became my go-to terminal. I even found myself using the command line more, which is something I want to encourage myself in.
Then one day F1 did nothing. 'Segmentation fault' it said. The solution is to delete your config files and restart, which works, but has the predictable downside of losing your configuration.
And then, a few days later, it broke again. Anyone have any thoughts on what might be going on here? ![]()
I actually left Easy Peasy (Then Ubuntu Eee) primarily because I didn't like the netbook remix interface. I know you didn't ask, but it always felt a bit mickey mouse to me. ![]()
Sounds like this could be an interesting experiment though!

Wow thanks dnny, never new that site existed.
We need a thumbs-up option for posts we find exceptionally helpful, even if they are so simple.
I digg that up! I mean... agreed! ![]()
bgwg, I like that a lot! ![]()
Nik_Doof - that is a hilarious desktop! ![]()
Imageshack winds me up.
dnny in IRC recommended Picamatic instead, and it seems to be a much nicer variation on the same idea.
I like Picasaweb. That would be good if you wanted to maintain a large gallery of resources. Likewise, flickr.
drop.io is great if you will want to share resources (like maybe layered Gimp files, or Inkscape SVGs). You can even use it as a blog, email stuff to it, and tons of other features no-where else has. Eg: http://drop.io/crunchbang
Finally, Dropbox, for sheer convenience.
Sometimes you can force the systray to redraw. I usually hit F11 in Firefox to make it go fullscreen for a second.
Your autostart.sh should have the following line in it, or something similar:
(sleep 2s && trayer --align right --edge top --transparent true --alpha 255 --tint 0x000000 --widthtype request --height 24 --expand true --margin 66) &The 'transparency', 'alpha' and maybe 'tint' entries being the significant ones here.
Should sort you. ![]()
I also use Tint2, Trayer, Netwmpager.
I like LXPanel over PyPanel, from what I've seen. I really couldn't get used to the fact that one application used 100% of the available space, then two used 50% each, and so on. It actually makes a lot of sense, but it felt odd to me. I also couldn't see any theming options I liked, although I may have been missing something...
Are you using PrtSc? f so, Cceck in the menu.rc file for:
<keybind key="Print">
<action name="Execute">
<execute>scrot '%Y-%m-%d--%s_$wx$h_scrot.png' -e 'mv $f ~/images/ & gpicview ~/images/$f'</execute>
</action>
</keybind>Make sure the path where gpicview is looking is correct. Make sure gpicview is installed. That's all I can think of...

gtk : macchiato

I like this a lot! Semi-related question... what is the file manager you are using there?
Please. Yes please. Please.
I deserve one because I am so terribly polite.
Thank you! ![]()
For my part in this, I'm going to produce a 'thin' version of the icons, as well as a reduced size version.
... Terminals use Ctrl+Shift+C and Ctrl+Shift+V.
Did not know that! Thx ![]()
I don't think I can shed much light, except to say that I'm running CrunchEee on an Eee 1000, with no sound or heat issues. Sorry if that's not helpful. ![]()
Just installed and joined the forum less than 2 hours ago.
I half expect to see James Bond come crashing out of a window, followed by henchmen in black jumpsuits... ![]()
Cool picture. And welcome. ![]()
I'm glad he's proving so popular. Richard deserves the lion's share of the credit here - it was his original idea.
This ninja is becoming amazing
Really nice work, indeed. Would have glad to have that logo on png too, to insert it in some images.
Thanks.
Bast, you can find the SVG in my last post. It's all grouped and layered logically, so it should be a doddle to extract a PNG to use as you like ![]()
Hi boost and welcome. I thought I heard something in the wind . . .
Groan ![]()
Welcome from me too. I hope you're not just a passing wind. ![]()
