Hello Thaery! I had the same issue with oblogout. I use no display manager. I resolved the problem by creating a '.xinitrc' in my personal directory.
It looks like this:

#!/bin/sh
exec openbox-session

Hope this help you.

Bonjour and Hello catch22 wink!
If you want to know more about your material, install the package named 'hardinfo'.
A 32 bit system can't manage more than 3GB of ram. If you have a 64 bits processor, a 64 bits system is a good thing. It can manage 64 TB of ram under linux! In theory... big_smile
As aim said, 4GB of ram is better. I can see the difference with a core2 quad Q9550 and 4 GB of ram. It's faster but needs more memory.
see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64#Linux (look at paragraph 5.2).

If you want to use raid, you need first to disable the fakeraid under the bios before (depending you get one or not, and what is installed yet), install #! with a 'netboot cd' and use the #! script. this installation method allows you to configure the raid during the installation.

A+ sur le forum.

Also, this is the first time I've joined a forum for a Linux distro. Looks like I'm getting all committed. tongue Which really is a good thing. I don't particularly enjoy the company of XP anymore.

I said 'goodbye' to xp three years ago, and never found a distro according to my feeling. Like you it's the first time I join a linux forum. +1 for #!

Soon on the forum smile

Problem is 1.3.1 was released a year ago, slim due to a recently lack of a maintainer was removed from the repos. I like slim but would like something maintained. According to the mailing list a new maintainer has been chosen but no new code has been released.

I like slim too. I think I will  use this version until we have a solution for karmic; or use karmic in text mode login...
Thanks for the information.

A+ Francis.

PS: Another problem. The installer of the karmic beta 'mini.iso'  is buggy at this time. I was unable to do a manual partitioning. The 'raid' and the 'swap' are not here, and you may only format in 'ext4'.
So I was unable to install karmic beta by the net yesterday.

Hello!
I have found a slim.deb ( version 1.3.1) here: http://packages.debian.org/fr/sid/slim

I run it with a 9.04 64 bits cli + openbox. It runs well. No matter with oblogout.

Here is the link to berlios.de: http://slim.berlios.de/index.php

Has anyone tried it on karmic?

A+ Francis

Sorry rednano12. I read your post too fast.
I think:

1 GB ext3 /
1 GB ext3 /home
2 GB fat32 other

could be good depending of the amount of datas you want to exchange.

Hello lewispm!
A 64 bits system with fewer than 3GB will run better than a 32 bits system with the same amount of ram.
At this time ubuntu 64 bits run very well. It's two years I'm running a 64 bits OS, and I will never go back to a 32 bits OS.

Have a look here for some explanations about 64 bits architecture:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit

Hello rednano 12!
Welcome to the forum smile.
I suppose you want a fat32 partition for exchange with windows. I don't think you can mount 'home' in fat32.
If you have only one HDD, create a partition in fat32 (for exchange with winndows). If windows is on another hdd you can mount it and get read/write on it.
Could you tell us why you want this? IS it for exchange?

HI ac3xyz!
You have made a very good job here big_smile. I'm testing both GTK + Openbox theme.
I'm pleased with the openbox theme, good complementarity of color, and in harmony with my wallpaper smile.
The GTK theme is just too bright for my eyes. I generally use the Darkilouche theme.

Thanks for sharing your works.

I personally prefer graphical login, since it's cheap eye candy. It's 2009 and I'm not running a ZX81 anymore...

I agree with you. That's why I returned to a graphical login manager smile.

Hello all!
What a pity for the deleted topics!I don't understand why.
Don't worry Trouble'n'strife. Personally I could live without the "delete" privileges for posts and topics.

Hello kenwong!
There is another way to install #! without the live-cd.
You first must download the script made by corenominal here:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/downloa … stallation

You also will need an "ubuntu minimalCD.
You will find  there all the instructions you need.

You can use an usb drive  or a memory card to install Ubuntu. Here are some links for this in english:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Insta … omUSBStick
http://www.teamteabag.com/2008/05/17/ho … -from-usb/

Another if you read french:
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/installation/d … ne_cle_usb

I think you can also use an external hard drive for this.

Hope this will help.

Hello friends!

+1 for SLIM

I was looking for a desktop independant login manager, and had a look at SLIM.
I have just made a fresh install of "a 9.04 cli + openbox" with SLIM ( from the repositories) instead of GDM. That's fine on my system. No modification needed for me to run it.
A good thing with SLIM is you can activate your numpad easily by only uncomment the following line in the "/etc/slim.conf":

# numlock             on

It seems to be easy to create his own theme too.
I use oblogout (oblogout_0.2-1-0ubuntu2-crunchbang2_all.deb), and have no problem with it, except the "lockscreen" option. I will have a look at this soon.
I think SLIM will be my new login manager since ...now smile
