The latest version of driver is well known for errors, thus most people suggest the previous one. I have tried to fight with it, and I lost smile thus my suggestion is to take customized Ubuntu with built in support for the GMA 500 / Poulsbo, and then work on the OpenBox to change it to CrunchBang look & feel - then you won't have to fight again after upgrade of kernel / Xorg.
This is link to the iso - do not forget to check the box "update during installation":

sorry, but none of these solutions worked on my new netbook, eeepc 1101HAB with resolution 1366x768.

the highest resolution it is producing with #! is 1024x768. sad

any other possible solutions?
dave.

If 1101 HAB has the same chipset as 1101 HA (my own), then you have GMA 500 / Poulsbo ghost onboard. In the Statler I was not able to win with IEMGD driver. I have found customised Ubuntu 11.10 for that particular hardware, which installed with all hardware working immediately after installation:

Make sure you have checked the box saying "update packages during installation" or so - there were few minor issues in the original .iso resolved later on.
Good luck, or sell your new Asus to me for 50% of original price smile

Speed. Simplicity. Reliability - meaning if I need sth to have done, I have all needed tools already installed.
And it looks so cool on black Asus 1101 HA smile

I've tried to upgrade from CB 9.04 to 9.10 and had lots of issues - and 9.04 works perfectly well for me, so no need of newer version. If corenominal decides to go for Debian as a base - keeping grub1, keeping the way of CB - good; if not - 9.04 works fine, and I can wait till 10.04 for next release.
No hurry for me.

It is not possible that it is a CPU issue - I've been successfully using linux systems on dual core Athlon for years. From your description it looks like problem with either chipset or graphic card. Have you tried installing in text mode?

Omns, thanks for the script - something that will make it easier for many people, who always wanted to try Debian. Just one question: does it install grub2? Last time I've installed it, after passing bios test on my rig it was doing _something_ for about 30 seconds before showing me menu with systems (2xHDD, Windows XP + Linux). Don't know what it was doing, and I've had a bit of trouble to remove it, now I reverted to old, traditional, not causing problems CB 9.04 with grub1.

Congratulations! I wish I was still in the UK, I could have taken photos of your wedding - some say I am quite good at it (taking photos, not weddings!).
Btw, do NOT name your kids "crunch" or "bang" smile
All the best, and during honeymoon stay away from computers, both of you...

Two months ago, shortly before leaving from Oxford, I installed CB for my friend. There was some problem similar to described above, I just couldn't connect it to the Wi Fi. Then I connected computer via cable, updated system, rebooted... And Wi Fi started to work. Don't ask me what was wrong, I haven't investigated this problem.

To guys who are less, erm, graphically impaired than me smile - please swap Corsair in top of logo with logo of CB, and you'll get my idea smile
Great wallpapers, and Shaun the Sheep made a good start of the day for me smile
Another idea - wallpaper full of casual, melancholic sheep chewing grass, and in the center one black with #! and evil grin, having chocolate bar smile . Graphical realization of such ideas is beyond my skills, thus all I can help is idea.

Now that's not fair! I've been waiting so long to see 64-bit version of #! and it's in testing exactly in the moment when I moved. I've left my desktop PC in previous flat for some time, so I can't try it.
Btw. - how about Skype and other non-64 bit native apps, do they work without problems out of the box?
Greetings from Prague!

Check this software - version "Lite" is available for linux free (after registration). Good one, for processing RAW files, should be good for managing photos too.

Welcome to the forums of CB, saturn9!

By the way - I've forgot to mention, but two months ago I rescued a 10 years old Toshiba notebook with 128 MB RAM, partially working CD drive, and ethernet through adapter. Even Xubuntu was too heavy for it, but thanks to CrunchBang it's now usable - and the owner couldn't believe how fast it's working!

could you write a lite edition and a 64-bit lite edition with absolutely the barest selection of apps preloaded?  People can then add whatever apps they wished.

Precisely - that's my point of view, too. After installing CB 8.10, I removed some graphic stuff and installed OpenOffice 3.0, next in queue is LAMPP & Geany. My only question is - is it possible to configure Wi Fi from minimal installation? I've bought an adapter just few days ago, and I've just learned how to use it under GUI smile .

Anyway, given limited hours of day, I would say - 64-bit first.

I hope it is possible, with 8.10 release...
