It's possible to grab the stream with rtmpdump and to pipe it to vlc or mplayer. Even without GUI.

If your keyboard layout has a separate Pause/Break key, you can assign a frequently used app there. Or to the F-keys.

A solution for the panel is to use a vertical xfce4-panel, put it to the west edge, unlock it, pull it a bit towards the center of the screen, lock it there, and tick auto-hide. This just leaves a very thin line which shows up when the mouse is hovered over it or even better: when a bound key, like F1, is pressed (in openbox's rc.xml you can assign it to xfce4-popup-applicationsmenu). This leaves openbox's menu, and adds the possibility to have a full menu, including weather/date/window buttons/volume icon/notifier. Just an idea.

Ok, thanks. Then it's quite surely nouveau effing around.

@smoki: zoom is laggy. I have kept nouveau on Waldorf on purpose, usually I download the blob. Now I definitely know: nVidia GeForce6150 + nouveau = sh1t.

^ ivanov, maybe you can help me fixing something - I have a slow IW when I visit pages like http://zorin-os.com/index.html

Can you visit the page and get the 'intro' load and run smooth? My browser nearly crashes here.

Ok, changed the howto to add gpicview instead of viewnior, gksu instead of gksudo and updated the menu.xml pastebin.

^ Yes, I haven't edited the menu.xml on purpose to remove that stuff, else it would have been a customization. Maybe the 9.04 menu would fit better.

gnome-calculator should be gcalctool
viewnior comes from a github

Thanks for the feedback.

Hello Bork and welcome to #!

I totally agree with the points you write, especially about Unity/Gnome3. I am a distro-hopper b*tch, having many OS's and DE's on the computer, and I switch multiple times a day.  In Unity I really like to do one task at a time, as you pointed out, everything looks crisp and I don't even have the urge to change the default theme - same in Gnome3 too. But as soon as I need to copy-paste from one window to the other, and my BH is chatting with me on Pidgin, and two-three terminals are open, I go crazy. big_smile

If e17 and xfce had a child (with most of the functionality coming from xfce and some of the appearance coming from e17), it would be very appealing.

Maybe you want to try out the KDE Trinity (yes, the old KDE 3.5) or razor-qt?

Hello and welcome!

Many users have complained a high CPU usage in IW/FF which again came from a higher CPU usage in Xxorg (or vice versa)

How laggy is it when you watch a video file from your hard drive, for example in VLC?

Can you post your

lspci | grep VGA

or tell us which hardware you run? Maybe it's the VGA adapters driver that is faulty here.
