no, no, no I'm about to buy a Toshiba laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. Is there a problem with it?

I don't know about Toshiba. I bought HP.

Regards!

Well do it on your own, or try to convince others same thing.
Yes, there is a middle where you customize a little.

I've been happy with Arch + Openbox. Then I bought new laptop and Linux doesn't have appropriate drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon.. Fan runs 110% with Arch.

So, my dear friends.. I'm back to Windows again.. Drivers are good, and Win7 looks like Linux desktop. I've optimized services, themes and stuff that OS eat "just" 450 MB of RAM. On Arch and Cruncbang it was about 74 MB.

I hope developers will reverse that drivers for Linux soon smile

To conclude, it seems that only change is constant..

My best regards!

I'm not afraid of Google. In moment you're on internet you are exposed.. And Google isn't worst beast in the jungle.

Yes, icon view is correct. smile

The probem is detected and workaround exists:

Downgrade

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/520118

I guess we have to wait for regular fix. (Thunar or GTK side). In the meantime, I use detailed view..

Hello,

I've installed Statler on HDD.
After switching my keymap from GB to HR, when I press Alt Gr, the Scroll Lock LED shines above numeric keyboard ?! And Statler changes my keyboard layout to US ?!?

It makes problem becaouse I can't get "@" sign. (Alt Gr + V).

Regards!

Since I'm using Windows for a while (90'...) I read some post about XP as boiling point to switch to Linux.
Someone mentioned:

  • viruses.. well, you could use !Avast, AVG,.. to solve this out.

  • updates that crashes system.. simply turn it off

  • slow by the time.. defragment (MyDefrag, CCleaner, clean the registry, turn off the System restore)

So, that wasn't reason for me because I never had problem with that (but it takes time to maintan).. BUT, all this apps and services makes WinXP slower than Linux + mem.usage is.. well, far from Linux, to be polite smile

I install Arch with Openbox on my desktop and it's true joy to polish them to fine state.

Regards!

I look on this in other perspective.
Since Windows are mostly cracked around me, they look like yet another linux smile.
What is truly worth of an OS is wealth of apps that can runs on specific OS, and yes, Windows have great app base.

So, in future maybe we'll see universal operating system with layers of abstraction to runs all kinds of apps, like we now have DE/WM in Linux..
We have WINE, VB, .. but for now we have to choose OS, DE/WM, repos, ...

And who knows why it is good ?!

Regards!

+1 for Audacious.
All others are a distatnt second place (IMO).

I've downloaded i686 Openbox and now I'm writting from Statler 10 LIVE. smile

Everything for now works quite OK, but I have problem with Pino. Won`t update my statuses ?!

Very nice default theme! Very clear and eye pleased. Fonts are nicer, cleaner.
Little surprised that I've found Orage rather than Osmo in Openbox edition, but little changes in apps aren`t big trouble.

Everything is more responsive.

Congratulations! This is a great work!

Downloading i686 Openbox.. 14 min left. smile

Will report all my feedbacks.

What about ASCII art ?! smile

Happy!

OK, keep in mind that I don't have nothing against this "case app" smile. I'm not quite sure when BAC (Basic App Chooser) will be trigged ?!

1. If we want out-of-the-box CD with installer, a 700 MB is limitation. (you must offer more apps for more choices).

2. If this nice app exists and needs internet connections in process of installing, hmm.. for me it's narrow pipe.
What about those with slower link or without Internet connections ?! (I know it may sound strange, but I installed #! to people with 80KBps link and updates was really annoying). This is not a strong reason. But I want a solid install.

3. If this app works AFTER basic install, then it have sense for me in cases where new user is not comfortable with all the possible choices..

It could be a bridge from minimal to custom install, like benj1 says. And it might be a happy solution with saneks idea of 3 type of install. Who knows ?!

Regards!

Do we like to choose our own apps or we want shining little menus to narrow our choice? Wich apps, how narrow ?!

Personaly, I like to choose my own.
On the other hand, I could understand that too many choices may getting on nerve to someone smile

Distros like Arch offer (too)wide range (freedom) of choices. It cost time and knowledge.
Mint offers out of the box many functionality but someone don't like GNOME.. Then we have XFCE, Openbox, ..

How to please majority and minority. Narrow/wide ?!

Where's the end ?!

Somwhere in the middle.. Choose distro that suit your need and adopt distro by your own taste.

Regards!

Peace

XMind is great. This requires JRE.
Thunar + Archive plugin + 7zip + unrar..+ scripts (for example)

#!/bin/sh
clear
mkdir ./800x600
for file
do
name=`echo $file | cut -f1 -d.`
convert -geometry 800×600 -quality 80 $file ./800x600/${name}_800x600.jpg
done
