Downloaded and installed on an old toshiba notebook which does not support boot from USB (using PloP bootmanager to install from USB). I haven't any problems with the installation. I used Win32DiskImage tool (v0.6) to wirte the image on my usb drive.
The GUI-install is sooo cute
Thank you corenominal for releasing
Unbelievable, I can really see a difference.
Thank you for the guide ivanovnegro
console
I chosse Opera too. I don't no why but i'm familiar with other browsers because my friends mostly use chrome or firefox.
Thank you sunfizz98, I'll try it next weekend.
Hey spookyz,
my brother had a similar wifi card in his notebook.
make sure you have firmware-atheros installed, and as an addition to that
$ sudo sh -c "echo 'options ath5k nohwcrypt' >/etc/modprobe.d/custom-wireless.conf"
and reboot.
you're welcome.
I collect old harware for testing purpose. It's always an adventure to see what works or what not.
Installed with no problems and impressed.
Finally a working kernel with p54pci firmware drivers. I had no luck in the past with previous kernels to work with the wifi firmware cause losing connectivity and so on. I always had to install ndiswrapper for a stable connection.
Crunchbang will do the job.
I've a similar system running.
Hi,
I'm planning to install the image soon and there is one question.
So in this build the backports are enabled by default does that means that a few of the packages are from backports besides the kernel ?
On my old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200 series w/ 320MB RAM it's 45MB
Openbox / nitrogen / tint2 / conky / xcompmgr / Networkmanager / Parcellite / thunar-daemon.
You can also install ttf-unifont
here is mine on replicants suggestion

Example (ignore the background color, it is transparent around tasks 'n' tray) :

@Grzegosz & replicant: thank you guys.
replicant, it's tint2. I tried to scale/spacing like windows 7's tray then i add a 1px border and a solid background color. It shouldn't get focus but it should say "I'm still there and active so don't worry ".
I decided to share my desktop before november ends. I don't change my configs often because I'm a bit lazy. All I want is a working machine and enjoy to work with it; like listening to music, browsing the web and do some office-stuff.

After a short research on debian's wiki the snd-maestro3 firmware was removed from the mainline kernel. But when you follow straight that guide http://wiki.debian.org/snd-maestro3 your soundcard should work.
I had the same problem with my yamaha soundcard
You have to add the Debian multimedia repositories
Add those lines to your sources.list.
## DEBIAN MULTIMEDIA
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org stable main non-free
After that you need the keyring because to verify that the repository is a trusted one.
apt-get update && apt-get install debian-multimedia-keyring
than...
apt-get install handbrake
