my username on here &ru refers to the nickname my fiancée has given me.

my usual username anywhere is the main alias i compose and produce my solo projects under, oscillik which is a word i made up that derives from the main component of a synthesizer which creates the initial waveform, the Oscillator (Voltage Controlled in analogue synths, Digitally Controlled in modern digital synths)

eek, looks like i ballsed up the syntax (had a section uncommented that should really have been removed)

thanks Nik_Doof for your instrumental help, and thanks to everyone else for suggestions smile

just added that and changed the entry related to nVidia (as i'm not lucky enough to have a graphics accelerator!) but it still doesn't wanna have it :-s

weird, as Windows allows 1280x1024 on here sad

oh well, bugger it!

if anyone knows, let me know!

awesome, i shall go powerup the frankenstein now

thanks smile

can anyone help me out?

i've tried using the xfce-setting-show control panel to see if i can get #! running at my monitor's highest res 1280x1024 but it's just not there.

i'm sure i remember someone on here having a similar problem, but i've tried running a search and can't find anything.

if anyone can help me get my #! running on my frankenstein PC box, i'd be very glad smile

Greetings Crunchbang crew, I was recently searching around the EEEuser forums and stumbled across Crashbang and was interested immediately. My one issue is I purchased a Logitech wireless mouse with the nano reciever. I would love to continue to use it, as I'm very against using touchpads, long story.

Anywho, I'm running XP SP3 (used nLite) on an EeePC 901 (came with Linux installed) 4GB primary SDD and an extra 16GB SSD.

Does anyone know of an opensource driver I could use, or if the mouse would work from a fresh install?

Thanks and I await your responce, in the mean time, I'm downloading Cruncheee and burning it tongue

if you're referring to the Logitech vxNano mouse, it should just work "out of the box"

as far as i'm aware, the nano receiver just acts as a intermediary between your wireless mouse and the computer. as far as the computer is concerned, it thinks the mouse is connected by a wired usb cable. at least, that's what happened when i had mine.

it would be cool to have Tux as a white "wire-frame" thing

kinda like a glyph

but then again, i do love the simplicity and minimalism of the #!

The issues you are describing are an unfortunate side effect of using a dark theme. I will look into seeing if a solution can be found.

we need to rally some support in getting all web developers to stop making sites that are light-theme centric!

Anyone else want to suggest another method?

is it possible to comment out the entry in ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh for Nitrogen?

i tried it once, but i don't think tint2 and trayer liked it very much. come to think of it, conky wasn't too fond either!

I'd personally like a way of overriding the dark theme (which is otherwise rather nice) within Firefox; which I'm sure is possible. Anyone know how to do it?

hi, i'm new here and to #! but as long as you're running the vanilla install of #! it should just be a case of right clicking on your desktop to bring up the main menu and following this path:

Main Menu > Preferences > User Interface Settings

this will change the colour and look of stuff like scrollbars and button widgets and so on.

after you've changed that, you may want to change the Window Decoration (some like to call this a theme)
follow:

Main Menu > Preferences > OpenBox Config > GUI Config Tool

and here you'll be able to change the Window Decoration to suit the colour scheme

hope this helps

Why are you using Windows for Skype? Regular #! comes with Skype installed, and I am sure that there is an easy path to get it on your eeePC.

Michael

i have tried Skype on my EeePC and (under Linux at least...vanilla Ubuntu and #!) it's just too choppy and unreliable. with a fiancee in the US, you can imagine that i use Skype quite a lot! if i can manage to get skype working decently in #! i'll be a happy chappy, but for the time being i'm using it on XP sad

I am sorry to read about the redundancy, I have gone through the same on a couple of occasions. Being made redundant is never easy, but something else will turn up. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

thanks corenominal, it's not easy especially when you're made redundant three times in two years by the same company (i call it the 3-2-1 anomaly now!)...i'm hoping to get back on my feet soon, thanks again for the well-wishes

Forgot to write you a reply email to that comment, you should come along to Liverpool LUG on Wednesday night, a few people attend along with Dan from Linux Outlaws.

It's scary to see another person living in Widnes on a forum smile

that would actually be really cool. i don't know Liverpool very well though. is the event being held within walking distance from a train station? i could very well make it.

and yeah, Widnes is full of surprises wink

Leafpad is already the default on the EEE version. As well as pcmanfm. Dont know any oher changes i havent used the regular #!

indeed it is smile
i have refrained from using the Cruncheee variant of #! though as some of the differences between the Eee specific version and the standard version are just a little too "lite" for me.

for the most part, i'm very happy with vanilla #!

well, i've been lurking on the board for a few weeks, and have been playing around with #! for around about the same amount of time, so i thought i should introduce myself

i'm &ru, currently unemployed (thanks to redundancies), and a self certified geek.

i got interested in computers at an early age (growing up watching stuff like The Terminator, and TRON) and discovered Linux in 1998/1999, starting with SuSE 6.0 as my first non-Windows OS. since then, i have used Mac OS, Mac OS X (for my music productoin interests) and have dabbled a little with vanilla Ubuntu.

i can't quite remember how i stumbled upon #! but i am very glad i did. vanilla Ubuntu is a nice idea, but personally i find the aesthetics very boring and too "nice". as a self proclaimed elitist (take a look through my music and film collections to see what i mean!), i know what i like...and i like minimal design.

#! now adorns my EeePC, and only resorting to Windows (on a separate machine) for Skype usage.

as for other info, i am a musician in my spare time, i have a very keen interest in films and music that would be considered very niche. i have a fiancee in NY state who helps supply me with great geek tshirts and things (8-bit ties, soylent green tshirt, etc) and who gave me my nickname &ru. once i can afford to get her over here to stay, i'll be helping her get to grips with Linux - have already showed her screenshots of #! and she also loves the look of it.

thanks for being bored enough to read about me!

I'd adjust the menu.xml (Preferences-->Openbox config-->Edit menu.xml) entry for the Text Editor to point at leafpad instead gedit. Whilst in menu.xml I'd also change the menu entries for the various settings in the Preferences section. Change these to use to use leafpad instead of gedit.

Then set leafpad as the default program to open text files in thunar. Right click on a text file and choose 'open with other application'. Choose leafpad and make sure box is checked to make it the default app for this kind if file.

hth smile

awesome advice, and much quicker than i thought!

thank you omns, muchly appreciated

hi, just wondering if it's possible to completely replace (on a system wide level) gedit with leafpad?

i prefer leafpad because it runs a bit faster on my EeePC 900

thanks for your help

I know it's little or no consolation but it's a problem you could have with a vanilla Ubuntu install on an Eee.

I eventually solved the problem on my 701 by playing around with the capture/mic settings in alsamixer (run it from a terminal session) and testing with SoundRecorder. Make sure that you have 'capture' level up & your input source set  for the i-mic (internal). You'll need the i-mic boost at around 33... but it is trial and error.

hi, thanks for replying smile

unfortunately i've tried messing around with the audio settings and still get nowhere. both the sound input and output on Skype are really choppy. to be honest i think it may have something to do with the Wireless driver...

i'm gonna try hooking direct into my router by ethernet to see if my theory is correct.

i'll let people know my results

hi, i've been looking at the forums for a few weeks now but decided to post due to the recent cruncheee release.

i tried this today and have had exactly the same problem that i've had with the standard version of #!
that being: skype just doesn't work

sometimes the mic works, sometimes it doesn't...and when it does work, the sound is very choppy (as if i'm having connection problems)
this doesn't happen when using skype in Windows XP, and it's highly annoying because this is the only thing that's stopping me from migrating completely over to #! as my main OS

does anyone have any pointers?
