Suggestion: banning pulse audio? I don't know anyone who hasn't had problems with this, other than the faulty nvidia drivers out a the moment it is the only problem I ever have with linux

I'm late but Happy Birthday!

Hey,

For some reason, since upgrading to the latest version of #! my system has random and unexplained logouts. Usually occur when watching a video but only happens sometimes and not always. I checked the gfx card packages and as far as I can remember they are the same in the two versions.

Any help would be great, I can't seem to find where error messages are being sent.

Thanks,
Aughban

Hey Guys,

I'm working on a python pipemenu as some practice for my scripting languages course at university. I'm getting a little error tho, the code is: http://crunchbanglinux.org/pastebin/388

When I add the pipemenu in obmenu it tells me that there is extra content at the end of the file but I don't see anything.

Thanks,

Aughban

Hey!

So I'm going to build my first system in a week or so, and I want #! on it smile I was thinking, since Karmic was JUST released, it would be really convenient to just put Koala#! on it rather than eventually having to upgrade.

So is there going to be an "official" release of CB based off 9.10 anytime soon, or should I just be content with 9.04 for now?

I'd be content with 9.04 for now if I were you. Philip's been mega busy at his day job lately. sad

I would agree, there hasn't been many major changes in this version. I would prefer the next version to be done right rather than done quick.

i added a gnome-do shortcut but otherwise no. It works fine when i use ALT-TAB just not when i use tint2.

Hey guys,

been a while, just came back to crunchbang to give 9.04.01 a go and I'm noticing that when I try to open certain windows they appear behind. I've checked the layer etc and they're all set to normal but Its a little annoying trying to get a terminal to appear and firefox just sits infront of it :s.

Thanks,

Aughban

Edit: Totally posted this in the wrong place and can't delete.. sorry

Congrats!! Have a great wedding and best of luck with the lucky lady smile

Hey Philip if I wanted to make a #! based on Jaunty, would you recommend I use the #! 9.04 test repository or should I wait for the final repository? Or maybe I should use the Crunchbangers and corenominal PPAs?

The 9.04.xx repository is up and working, it would probably be best to use it. I have moved the 9.04.01 build script out of the testing directory and it can be found at: http://crunchbanglinux.org/build-scripts/ - Please note that the final desktop meta packages have not been finalised, but you should be able to build both 32bit and 64bit versions without issue. smile

Sorry for the hold-up on the LiveCD install media, I was hoping to get them out today, the same day as the Jaunty release, but there are a few niggling issues which I need to resolve first. hmm

are you going to build the next version of cruncheee off the netbook remix? or just continue as it is with the updated packages?

yeah.. i think im going to have to reinstall now. I tried upgrading when jaunty released just to see what would happen now i can't install packages :s and the new notifications arn't there!

Ya I saw one of the first classes was Java, but I'm wondering if my lack of programming knowledge now will have a negative effect on trying to complete the major.

they're going to provide you with the skills to code in java, this basically means they want to provide you with the skills to figure out how to make a java program i.e make use of the API and have an understanding of the syntax becoming a good programmer means practice and it takes longer for some people than others, if you are examined on java it will be mostly on the syntax and the virtual machine i imagine.

If your interested in computer science i suggest you search around for some lecture slides, there are loads up around the internet. CS is a very interesting subject but its not easy, if you don't have a mind for maths or dealing with some rather complex concepts it might not be the best choice as your major.

oh and yeah you don't need to love programming, programming is a relatively small part of computer science it just tends to be the best part. Now maths, you have to love maths tongue and not just algebric math, you need to know about discrete mathematics and thats a snoooooze fest.

best of luck with your choice,

augh

Sounds like GRUB didn't install on your actual HDD, and it's just using the USB stick for booting.

Boot into the LiveCD, then from the command line run:

sudo grub-install /dev/<disk>

and give it another try.

worked perfectly, cheers smile

I'm a student at Southampton uni studying computer science (next semester we're studying Linux so seemed a good time to get some practice in).
I live with aughban, who's also registered on here.
Thanks Jenny x

Hey,

I've been installing crunchbang on my gf's song vgn-ar41l, it required me to edit the boot options to allow for it to boot from an external device (USB key). It installed fine but whenever i set the external boot back to disabled and try booting without the USB drive it comes up with the message "no operating system found". I still have a few idea's but i was wondering if anyone had the answer to this rather strange problem.

Hello Aughban smile

I think I may have come across this before and if I remember correctly, it was solved by deleting the config file ~/.config/nitrogen/bg-saved.cfg - give it a try and see how you get on.

Hey,

I gave that a try and nitrogen is still crashing :s but other than that everything everything worked out of the box on my desktop smile. Still trying to figure out how to keep my second empty hd mounted between boots.
