i third that motion ... brilliant !

i'm (a noobie) still looking for a better fix but ... this is my solution thus far :

thunar file manager has an "Edit" > "configure custom actions" button .
http://thunar.xfce.org/plugins.html
i added an "eject" option to my "right click" mouse button .

now mind you i only use this on the main window of /media file manager .
it does not work on the side view of the window but ... like i said i'm (a noob)
still looking for a better solution .

also , there is an "Edit" > "preferences" > "advanced" tab Enable/configure option
that when unchecked seems to make the normal eject option (sort of) behave .

thank you toor58 ...
i have a 60 gig partition'd hard disk . when i :

$sudo umount -a /media/disk(1) or
$sudo umount /media/disk(1) or
$sudo eject /media/disk

hard disk unmounts or ejects with out a hitch ... when i try to right click " eject volume" in file manager
i still get a [ Unknown Error Failed to Unmount ] error .
what's also weird is then both partitions open in new windows . hmm

i'm tryin' to figure out a way to change from "eject volume" to the old "unmount volume" method .
but there's no /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-storage-policy.fdi in #! to modify .
see link : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? … amp;page=2

ditto here ...
still tryin' to figure this one out .
usb flash drive mounts and unmounts (ejects) perfectly .
usb hard drive mounts without problem though , does not eject (same error as yours kiwiboy)
will keep at it after work ... lates for now .

thanks omns and to all for the solution (s) ...

i am up and running .

i am very excited about crunchbang and already feel welcome ...
thank you thank you to ALL involved .
