You don't need to go with vim-full, you can get just vim which doesn't have the gvim interface. Unfortunately it's vim-runtime that kills you at 5mb packed, 22mb installed, but still, I'm of the opinion that it's worth including. There is much more that could be shaved off

For the record, I am fiercly pro-vi(m). I use vi at work constantly throughout the day, and I run OS X there. I work across many different operating systems, and appreciate the consistency of vi. For people who grew up with fancy GUIs, it's a real shift to use it, but it's powerful, and has survived as the defacto *nix editor for a reason. All of you proclaiming your preference for inclusion of gedit over a functional vim package are making me cringe.

C, Perl, & sh mostly. May have to learn Python soon for work related stuff

While using Compositing won't have too much of a detrimental effect on the Mini 9, I would recommend avoiding use of transparency on windows. The Mini 9 just doesn't have the power to do it efficiently, and dragging a transparent window will lag behind a significant amount. You can pretty it up but don't go overboard, it's not a workhorse smile

But it already comes with vim! tongue Just upgrade from vim.lite to vim.basic for syntax highlighting and you're on your way big_smile

cool guess I need to pick up C now too big_smile. Is it working correctly on your mini? mine isn't reporting power draw correctly, it just shows present rate as 0 mA.

Nope, doesn't work properly on the Mini because of that, but I didn't have anything else with a battery in it to realistically test the time. Not sure if there's some other way to determine it neutral

Posted a C version here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/pastebin/101 tongue

Average times on my Dell Mini 9:
Python: Real 0.135s
C: Real 0.072s

lol

Make and "install" with:
gcc -o batt battery.c
sudo cp batt /usr/bin/

What would make this really cool is adding an accelerometer. I've found a few different USB offerings:

http://www.phidgets.com/products.php?product_id=1053 (2-axis)
http://www.optimal-microsystems.com/sto … cts_id=154 (3-axis)

The second one is very low-level when it comes to programming for the device, while the phidgets product offers a much more robust API, with support for C, Java, Python, etc. I imagine it'd be a lot easier to deal with. I am quite tempted to pick up one of the phidgets modules to try using with my Dell Mini 9. Hmmm...

thanks that'll help for anyone wanting to replace maximus(I thought it was annoying anyway, If I want to maximize an application I'll do it myself). Another thing to mention with the maximize and decor options is you can set them per application as well. So if you know you always want firefox with no decorations and maximized you can put

<application name="firefox">
  <decor>no</decor>
  <maximized>yes</maximized>
</application>

in your rc.xml.

Now that one is handy smile Will definitely be utilizing that

You need to use a mono font, but from the man page:

use_spacer
    Adds spaces around certain objects to stop them from moving other things around. Arguments are left, right, and none (default). The old true/false values are deprecated and default to right/none respectively. Note that this only helps if you are using a mono font, such as Bitstream Vera Sans Mono.

8.10.01 on my Dell Mini 9. Replaced lxpanel with pypanel, simplified conky (cpu red, ram blue, bolt is battery). Will remove the shortcuts listed once they're committed to memory wink

Left click, isn't it? Right click is resize

Anyone else get "task on all desktop : ignored" when launching something like gedit? Why is gedit setting itself that way? I notice that lxpanel displays a task button with no issues for gedit.

I've compiled tint2 from SVN, still the same issue (no task button for gedit). Made the following patch, probably causes issues on multi-monitor/multi-desktop setups

Could you post a link to that tutorial? I'd like to learn more about this casper loop file you're talking about.

He's probably referring to http://www.pendrivelinux.com/crunchbang … l-windows/. I followed that to get a flash drive set up suitable for booting/installing #! to my Dell Mini 9.

Running #! on a Dell Mini 9 (8gb stock SSD, 2GB RAM), I don't have any of the `exotic' addons (no webcam, Bluetooth or WWAN), but the built in wireless worked from the get-go. The trackpad has some quirkiness sometimes so far, but I've only had the netbook for a week now. If anyone looking to get one has any questions, feel free to ask.
