@illumin8 : That's Gerry Anderson's "U.F.O." Not Space 1999.
Not that I'm old enough to have seen either on original showing, but still.
Next I'll be correcting someone quoting from "The Prisoner" ![]()

It upgrades your packages, not turns it into the new version.
This is why i'm considering installing the 9.04.01, instead of sticking with my 8.10.02 upgraded to jaunty.
i think you would have to change the name, logo, and get your own site.
With that you would have to make your own repositories, remove all of the artwork, and rewrite quite a few scripts that have the crunchbang name in it.You would also have to remove omns artwork unless you get written permission
not neccesarily have to rewrite any scripts.
Do we remove everything and anything that says "Ubuntu" or "Debian"? No. It's all GPL.
I wont be seeing it, seeing as I don't find Sacha Baron Cohen funny.
Like, at all.
I don't know about epiphany, but the main firefox version in the repo is still the 3.0.xx versioning.
Ubuntu have yet to puch the 3.5 version to everyone.
You can, however, install it: sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5
and then, to run, press alt+f2 and type in "firefox-3.5" (no quotes) and hit enter.
now THERE'S an idea. Makes it clear to everyone where they can find stuff quick!

I really should learn to code, so i can do productive things, even if they seem unproductive to most of society.
I use the PPA, so don't notice anything.
That's a fair point that I thought of after posting. IDK, I could always write myself a javascript script to remove it from everywhere but the search page, since that's the functionality I would use, yet it leaves it there for most.
And lol, course I spotted that! You think I was going to be doing something USEFUL!?!? ![]()
Yah, new forum update.
Quick suggestion: Can we have it only on the search page?
I don't think we really need it on every page. ![]()
Just IMO, of course, YMMV
that's actually a pretty good blog. I'm subscribed to the RSS, have been for some time.
Huzzah, it worketh most verily!
Rebooteth time.
Uploading crunchbang-9.04.01-i386.iso to my free host as we speak. (also seeding, though slowly, the torrent on tpb.)
Since when was anything with a 1ghz processor or better "supremely old"?
Yes, granted, the RAM will limit Linux, but seriously?
Man.... people should come see my 333MHz computer.
I'd have an AMD K6-2 running too, but it needs a new PSU.
I've got an installation like that atm, on my test machine.
When I get a few days free, I'm going to look into what corenominal did with remastersys and try to make something similar in Debian, and push out the iso somewhere.
No promises of quality or timescale.
At the lower end, I would certainly agree with that basic summation.
As Philip says, what kind of performance gain you would get is unknown, but I have had a 128MB machine boosted to 192, and it was a LOT more responsive.
Obviously, tasks can only be done as fast as they can be processed, but basically the OS can keep things ready in RAM to use them when you ask for them, rather than all the RAM being used solely for what you are doing right now.
Do we seriously need over 100 linux distros? Wouldnt it make more sense for developers to get together on a few projects (main, lite, eeepc, education etc)? kindof how ubuntu does it except on a much larger scale.
Yes, why do we need to have Crunchbang, when there are already other light distros?
And who needs Ubuntu, when you have Debian already!! Debian can be plenty light!
This is a common misconception: most projects return their ideas to the original base level projects they depend upon.
It's about freedom. Freedom of choice, and freedom to do what you like, make what you like.
I'll see if I can torrent then find somewhere to mirror the files.
I have a freehost that is known for disappearing for ages at a time, but it has a 15GB cap on files to hold on the server, and no posted b/w limit, so it works pretty well when it IS up. I'll see if I can get to upload a copy of some of the files to it.
Wil Wheaton made a great comment on Twitter (he is @wilw if anyone cares) about this:
"Isn't there already an open source, lightweight, free operating system that runs nicely on netbooks?"
my reply:
"@wilw i believe, like google's, it runs on the linux kernel."
Agreed, NewCityVegas
There are many things that have annoyed me about the Proportional Representation system that the Scottish Parliament uses, but it has to be said, it's fairer than the Uk traditional "First Past The Post"
Happy 4th of July!
Oh, and Re: "Oldest" democracy?
Wasn't France there first? And after the US became it's current democratic self (slaves and all at the time
) THEN the French sent over the Statue of Liberty?
It's a real biotch to find out the motherboard details, believe me.
Why are you wanting to upgrade?
Athlon64 3000+ ain't a bad CPU
Just knowing th Socket and what you have currently isn't enough, you need to know the maximum processor that your motherboard can use.
If you can post what IT is, I can see if I can find out the relevant details, then find a better CPU.
Ahh, but continuing releases, keeping up with the parent distro, keeps popularity and yes, while it ain't the most important thing, not by any means, more users means more ideas, and more contribution.
I think we should be very careful this time round.
I realise it was mostly unforeseen circumstances that caused it, and then you had your wedding, corenominal, but I think we should ensure there is an official 9.10.01 release, ideally inside of a week of Karmic's release.
Just, IMHO
