I noticed that when machine is on battery CPU runs  always at max and on AC scaling works, wondering why my battery runs out so fast.

So i tried with cpufreqd  but it refuse to install with some msg of kernel somthing missing.

If its possible ,how can I install  the CPU frequency scaling Monitor used in ubuntu?:

I share some of how It can be for a user used to Windows.

I started with a usb-stick and theres was no big problems after a hour or 2 so I decided to blow my HD since my vista installation was slow and it was time for a format :C,
and give CB a chance.
But when installed on HD no screen at all. Terminal only neutral Annoying since it was ok with  usb-stick. It took me some time to fix that.Time passes
Second: no wlan-- it to was ok with the usb stick to..more time passes...

At one point I was total lock out of CB. somthing like: AUTHENTCATIN FAILED. But grayed out loginscreen. I was not to impressed at that point smile
More time...
So I can say I felt fooled it was more easy to get it to work than expected at first glance run from USB.

So some way improve judgement what needed to get this to work for users would be good or-- at least inform that it could be different with a installation on HD.
Ecpecially good for users with little experince with Linux.
If its possible I dunno.

But everything works now so I will stay with CB.

Thanks

a long shot but

iwconfig wlan0 rate auto
?

Nik_Doof its the default.

First: make sure wlan is enabled in bios and switch lan/wlan is activated  in bios to:)

Go here and read & download.

http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Downl … essdrivers
extraxt, cd to folder and
make
sudo make install

then read in terminal inctructions ,but I needed to reboot and then:

sudo modprobe iwl4965
sudo modprobe mac80211

gedit /etc/modules

add iwl4965 and mac80211 in that file

Install wicd. In autostart.sh comment out networkmanager and put in:
(sleep 1s && wicd-client) &

result tp-test:
send 26.6 Mbit/sec
recive 32.92 Mbit/sex
responsetime 3ms

Hope this helps someone.

thoose 3 lines above is there.

after killall conky AND a reboot conky is gone. and I can see my applications firefox and so on again.

I cant start packetmanager from meny or debianmeny so one problem left beside from the conky problem.

I checked htop and some user/bin/cruncbang/xcompgr--cruncband--startstop thingy is there.

conky is now running and evrything ok besides packetmanager dont starts (I need it becuse wlan dont works)

then conkyrc i got one line Im not sure its ok:
${execi 100 cat /home/janne/ck.txt}

edit:
that line is read from textfile who is updated from a small script cron-->ftp who update a another texfile not in conky.
can that cause problem?

1. I dont know what I did other than changed conky, but as it now any application i started when I minimize I cant see them after. screenresloution is ok.
And worse I cant start some applications, or they remain "hidden" yikes
So I trid to disable conky in autostart.sh in usr/share/Cruncbang/openbox/..and where Im expected to do it and becuse I blame conky until I know better.
But no effect conky still on.
Applications is running but I cant see them.

2. reboot dont works, my puter wont reboot it stops before grnb and I need to shut down.

#1 is urgent my system is unusable.

Ok I changed topic a little. I have a 2 issues left to fix then my CB system is ready for daily use:

first problem:
spamd
[13452] warn: server socket setup failed, retry 1: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Permission denied
[13452] warn: server socket setup failed, retry 2: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Permission denied
[13452] error: spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Permission denied
spamd: could not create INET socket on 127.0.0.1:783: Permission denied

spamd is checked in services.

It works if I do sudo spamd

second issue
restricted manager  and packet manager dont start cause the fingerprint reader stops the authentication
http://crunchbanglinux.org/pastebin/123

How can I fix this  problems?

Ok its done:)

ended up with this
#!/bin/sh
rm ck.txt
awk '{print "Inne"" " $4 "\260C" " " "Ute" " " $5 "\260C"}' raw.txt>ck.txt
exit 0

in conky.rc
${execi 100 cat /home/janne/ck.txt}
the rest is a linux inbuilt  ftp crontabjob

iggykoopa ok, on the browser at my work (IE6) it didnt show up.
At home it shows up.
Now I can try put somthing together on this
Thanks

ZeroTruths: i think somthing went wrong in your last msg because I cant see any code after: "use this line:"
Its just a bar.

ZeroTruths wrote:

You can take the output of that (perhaps something like cat %file%) and append this to it:

sed "s_.*:[0-9][0-9] \([-0-9.]\{1,4\}\) \([-0-9.]\{1,4\}\).*_Indoor: \1 Outdoor: \2_"

Just out of curiosity, and possibly to improve the script, what are the maximum and minimum characters of those values?
[Edit] Is this a log from some weather source?

indoor is min 1 max maybe 30
outdoor is min -20 and max  +40

its a log from my wheatherstation 110 km away. the logfile is online and sent each 5 minutes to a server at my home LAN. Then  is some  work  on that file with rrdtool and imagemagick done on the server.

hmmm....just decided to format :c and use #!instead.
nano tongue

I need to choose a irc-client
music and video-- I have a Popcorn hour and a mediaplayer so  no need for a client other than vlc.
torrents still not choosed a client. I have used rtorrent on a NAS but on a desktop I want a gui.Dunno
web I will  choose between G. Chrome and opera.

I  a log file updates each 5 minutes look like this:
20090121234506 2009-Jan-21 23:45:06 10.4 0.4 -0.5 39 94 0.0 135.0 SE 0.4 0.00 0.00 274.02 1022.600 Rising Sunny

from that   pick out this two:
10.4 and 0.4
I know I can do it with somthing like this:

awk 'print" indoor " $4" " outdoor" " $5" >file.txt

But is it after that possible to show thoose 2 values from file.txt with conky --if so how?

the file is available on my LAN

n1ick thanks that solved it. smile

thanks all

Here is my:
HP 6910p
• Intel® Core™2 Duo-processor T7700
• 2,40 GHz , 4 MB L2-cache, 800 MHz FSB
•Monitor 14,1      1440 x 900 WXGA+
•Mobile™ Intel® PM965
•Intel® Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n mini-pci-kort, Bluetooth (BT inactivated)
•3 GB RAM
•fingerprintreader (fprint works)
•inbuilt SD/MMC (works)
•  x2300 Radeon

Wlan works --now and then (Linux wlan support can improve a a lot). N-works maybe with ndiswrapper but in that case without any security or with WEP(?).
