You need to start with extract the inf-file, the exe is probably just a selfextracting zip.

I didn't realize that this was a one-man project. I am very impressed with this distro and just assumed that it was a larger project.
The stable release works fine but I would prefer to stick to Statler and am not ready to give up yet. I will post more detail when I can try a reinstall and get the exact error messages.

This worked, but now I have too many options. In Xubuntu, the desktop settings asks which icons I want to display. I have 'Home', 'Filesystem', 'Wastebasket' and 'Removable devices'. I get the first three by default, and the fourth when I plug a USB storage device in.
When I tick exactly the same boxes on #!, I get the four I mentioned and links to /backup, /music, /usr...etc, etc.
I don't want these extra files, can they be excluded, somehow?

I have a deb for it(just converted the rpm with a right click using alien as a custom action in Thunar - really helpful)

OT: Howto convert an rpm package to a deb using the method above:
sudo apt-get install alien
Add a new custom action in Thunar
fakeroot alien -k %nAnd set conditions to *.rpm
