Or run "sudo apt-get upgrade" in the terminal. Its the same thing.
Figured I should avoid terminal responses because the OP mentioned lack of exp and sounded almost like there was a phobia of terminals...which I had at one point in my linux life too...switching from gui to cli is harder than some people think...but Im better for the switch now though ![]()

Since muppets seem to be the theme with Bunsen and now Statler, I think Beaker would be the best, and here are my reasons:
Bunsen is the tester for #!, aka does all of the experiments on #!, and Beaker is usually the subject of Bunsen's tests so...
I am a Chemistry major, so I <3 beakers

Re: www.archbang.org (213 replies, posted in Off Topic / General Chat)
after you install network-manager, you need to replace wicd for networkmanager in the daemon list in /etc/rc.conf. you can have both installed, but only one on rc.conf. You should also replace wicd-client for nm-applet in your home autostart.sh.
Took me some time, but after way too many searches in way too many places, got it figured out ![]()
Had to first install broadcom-wl from AUR and then add
MODULES=(lib80211 wl !b43 !ssb ...)to the rc.conf for my silly dell and its silly chipset
Then installed networkmanager and the nm-applet via pacman according to how the arch wiki told me to
Then changed wlan0 to eth1 in NETWORKING part of the rc.conf because again, dell is a silly goose
And then changed daemons in the rc.conf to look like:
DAEMONS=(dbus hal networkmanager syslog-ng !network !dhcdbd !wicd @alsa)Edit: Got the WPA working by following This part of the ArchWiki so now I can say I'm truly fully functional ![]()

A! 2.00 RC1 has failed me.
what did u do? u broke it! ;p
2 downloads, 2 burned cds, 2 pcs, 2 boot options tried, all fail. either end up in ramfs, or end up in the desktop (i presume) but with the graphics all glitchy, and everything hung.damn. i was really excited about it too.
Did you try to boot the failsafevesa option?

Since i had the same problem (dd not writing anything on my thub-drive), i installed "sdd" from the ubuntu-repos. Then "sdd if=archbang-xxx.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=8M" did the trick.
That did do the trick, thanks! Wow, 2 for 2 in one thread.
Archbang will only run if I chose to start it in failsafe mode, and from what I can gather, its because in the other modes, the gma 950 isn't supported along with the screen resolution by X. For what ever reason, according to the X log, it finds support when I tell it to start in failsafe mode.
Only issue is that now wireless doesnt work, and I'm assuming its because of the typical broadcom driver needing ndistwrapper or something issues ![]()

If you have a Crunchbang or Ubuntu live CD try to launch gparted e see if you can reallocate the 500 megs of the usb drive.
It worked! Thank you! Wow...finally something that windows couldn't do that linux could...I usually use windows to format things but i think that can change now, gparted has many more functions, and seems a bit better now too ![]()

Replace /dev/sdx with the actual name of your USB device (for example /dev/sdb). You can use fdisk -l if you're not sure. Be careful you get it right, dd is a powerful command!

The builds taking place at the moment are just for testing and refining the actual build process, they are really not fit for anything. As soon as any real builds happen, I will release them into the wild. Talking of which, I would eventually like to have daily, or at least weekly builds, so I am now looking for some low-cost servers for use as file servers. If anyone has any recommendations, I would love to read them.
Will they be debian flavored builds? ![]()

Well, need some help...
downloaded, install on usb via
dd if=archbang-1.05-i686.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=8Mand it would not boot from the usb, saying no OS Found.
Ok, no big, but when I went to open the usb drive via my file manager, it cant, saying its not properly formatted. I plugged it into my windows xp computer, and went to format it back to fat32 just to start over but it now says the 1GB drive is only 500MB....
So...what can I do to get my other 500MB back, and what can I do to make the arch iso work?

@stopie - As long as we exclude the CrunchBang themes and scripts, making installation scripts should be easier. We can just make an archive for the CrunchBang stuff and tell people how to extract/install it.

Re: conky size (5 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
stopie - I assume those lines are in your config without the #, otherwise they are just comments
and I'm note sure why setting maximum_width to 0 would help...
but if it works it works!if you don't care how big your conky gets then set maximum_width to the width of your display and set minimum_size to 0,0
then again I'm no expert on conky settings
#1: yea, no "#" in the config..oops, fixed
#2: if you set it as your resolution then you can no longer right click for your obmenu

Re: Adding Crunchbang features in another distro (19 replies, posted in CrunchBang Talk)
yeah, that.
might actually prove less work behind the scenes. think about it.
idk, because:
That's not quite as easy as it sounds. The script uses uses a desktop metapackage that pulls in all the necessary packages as well as installing debs that do all the Crunchbang themes and configurations. I've pulled apart these debs and put an amalgamation of them back together for another personal project but it is fiddly to say the least. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not easy just to port it over to another base distro. You would need to look at the package management system a distro uses then construct a package to do a similar job.
My thoughts were that it would take time to make the scripts to be distro specific, based on each distros package management, since they all use some kind of package management...but once the scripts were made, it would be super easy for the public to spin their own distros, so then #! would become more of like a meta-distro or meta-project, then just a specific distro...but not all dreams are meant to come true...

Re: conky size (5 replies, posted in Help & Support (Stable))
you may want to try
minimum_size 0 0
maximum_width 0 I had a problem with lua output getting cutoff, and this seemed to fix it because, with the value as zero, conky autoexpands
