Everything. I've been traveling pretty extensively so it's been my main computer for a few months now.

And most of the time it works just fine. I do sometimes wish for a bigger screen though. And games. It can handle some classics (and Minecraft!!!) but anything even remotely cutting edge is hopeless for obvious reasons.

If I were to purchase my netbook over, I'd have picked up something with the Ion in it...

+1 for MSE. I've tried maybe 5-6 different products over the years and eventually settled on this.
It's not that resource intensive, it integrates really well into windows, and it's near the top in terms of detection in most of the scanner comparison tests that I've seen. I'm usually pretty cynical about Microsoft products (though I still use them...), but this is one of the few pieces of Microsoft software that I feel good about strongly recommending.

Another addition: don't go with the Toshiba NB305 or it's brethren. This is what I use, and though I love the form factor (it's got a great keyboard and trackpad for a netbook) the linux support from Toshiba is terrible.

Suspend does not work, battery life is pretty poor, good luck with your function keys, etc... IMO, if you want to run linux on something, the more commonly used it is, the more likely you'll be able to get what you want working on it. In other words, the eee line of netbooks start to look like a good choice if you're going to be installing linux on them...

Oh, and if you're thinking of playing games that aren't really old (like DOS old) then definitely consider getting something that's got the ION platform in it...

What bothers me about AdBlock is that I can't universally condone it's use. If everyone used AdBlock, the revenue source that makes much of the internet financially possible would not be viable. So to answer your question, it's the general principle of the thing more than anything else. Clearly my blocking ads isn't going to show up in any meaningful way on anyone's balance sheet.

Of course, it's pretty clear that all internet users are not going to suddenly all adopt AdBlock, so it's little more than principle. Then again, it's not obvious to me that that fact should bear on the ethics of AdBlock. If (hypothetically) AdBlock is unethical in some way, then whether or not everyone uses AdBlock shouldn't change the underlying morality.

In the past, the way I've justified using AdBlock to myself has been through the white list. I white list sites that I use frequently, particularly if they have non-annoying (i.e. not flash, no sound, no pop-ups), reasonably relevant ads. This struck me as a good compromise. I could support the sites I like and consistently benefit from, while still blocking the more obnoxious ads that abound on the web.

But then I got lazy. I also started switching browsers a lot. In other words, I stopped using the white list. So I had to decide: is it better to support the sites I like and put up with the obnoxious stuff, or block the obnoxious stuff but also not support the sites I like. Judging that it was unfair for me to penalize all the sites I benefit from for my laziness, I opted to stop using AdBlock and put up with the occasional obnoxious ad.

So that's the long version, I guess. Really hope this doesn't derail this thread in any way, as that was not my intention...

Yeah I found these about ten minutes ago. For some reason nm-applet was using the Elementary-Statler theme version of these. I'm not sure why nm-applet is pulling icons from Elementary-Statler, Gnome-Colors-Statler, and Hicolor for different things, but it is... The problem is that there's a bunch of symlinks to these that I'd have to fix if I just blanket replace them. I just can't really justify spending an hour doing that to fix the appearance of a single icon in my sysbar. Hell, I've already spent too much time on it. This is especially true when the next time I want to change themes, I'll have to repeat the whole process.

Right now I'm just irritated with the whole situation. I can't tell if it's nm-applet or tint2 being stupid about where it gets icons for the systray. Thinking about switching to wicd to see if the situation is any better over there. But really, we have tools to set the system's gtk icon theme. With just a few clicks, we can change every single icon on the system that isn't in the tint2 systray. Themeing the systray should be as simple...

Statler openbox.

I've looked a few places in /usr/share/ already.
/usr/share/nm-applet/ exists but has nothing in the way of icons in it.
There is no /usr/share/xfce4-power-manager/ folder.
I haven't looked through every folder in /usr/share/icons/ but I've looked through the folder for my current gtk icon theme.
Didn't see anything relevant in /usr/share/pixmaps/ either...

Not sure how I'm supposed to search for an icon file that I don't know the name of.
Also, making a new icon won't work. The reason I'm asking about these is I'm trying to use the faenza dark icons in my tint2 systray, so I have a replacement icon already. I just need to find where to put it to get the systray to use it.

Edit: I think I may have just found the icons for xfce4pm in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/status
Still not sure where nm-applet icons are stored...

Thunar. I used to use PCmanFM. They both need work though. Thunar could really use tabs and split view. PCmFM needs breadcrumbs in the location bar. It also looks so much worse than Thunar and as we know, looks are everything Honestly, the best I've seen is nautilus-elementary but I'm not pulling in all of nautilus just for that.
Leafpad. But if I ever bother to learn some basic programming, it will be gedit all the way.

pyroom. I've heard good things about textroom though too. I'm considering switching.
Chromium/Midori. I need to stop switching between firefox and chrome and just settle down. Right now I believe that Chrome is the better browser, or at least it will be, but some basic functionality (*ahem* bookmark and d/l managers that don't suck *ahem*) is still missing.
mocp. Sometimes pull out banshee, but lately it's been mocp almost 100%
dropbox
picasa. Ditto on what spoovy said. Nothing else comes even remotely close for basic photo editing and uploading. Shotwell would be my second choice if picasa failed for some reason.
baobab. Don't know why but I've always loved this little tool. Just a rock solid disk usage analyzer.
anki. Seriously. If you are learning a language, do yourself a favor and check this out.

Gnome-do has been mentioned about a million times already. I've found that with dmenu, I don't need it. However, if I wanted to run a mac osx-like dock, gnome-do and docky would be installed in a second. I really think that the integration of gnome-do's search functionality into the docky dock bar is brilliant.

Also, I don't use it on my netbook (for obvious reasons) but dvd::rip is a great program. Easily the best tool I've ever used for backing up dvds.

On second thought, I can't seem to find the right location to change the sysbar icons for nm-applet and xfce4-power-manager. I'm on Statler A2...

Anyone know where those icons are stored?

How does one change the icons that Tint2 uses in its systray?

I know it's possible because I've seen screenshots where people have done it. For instance, Wiscot does it here:
