Doesn't seem to work for me either on a Dell E1405 laptop (Core 1 Solo, Intel MB)...

mlweber@mattsbox:/$ openbox-logout
Suspending
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 0
Failed
/usr/bin/openbox-logout: no process killed
Terminated

Simply running pm-suspend works just fine. It comes back with networking, video, and all working. Perhaps it has something to do with all of my "customizations". I will try again when I do a reinstall later, which I plan on doing as soon as the lite installer is ready (prod).  The error message is the same for hibernate.

In response to #3, the Desktop folder annoys me as well. From my quick experimenting with a dummy user, it appears that firefox creates the directory the first time it downloads a file or saves a page (simply going to the save page menu created it for me). Other GTK apps (I must admit, I only tried abiword) defaulted to the home directory as a storage place.

snowpine,

Whoops. Shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. Thanks for the quick response. I will definitely actually check it out. Sorry to be hijacking this thread, but if I install that version will it easily upgrade to 8.10.01's packages or should I wait for the 8.10 lite?

Am I right in assuming that the lite edition is just the full edition without the apps that aren't absolutely essential (like.. Kino, 2 terminal emulators, gimp, inkscape) but keeping things like abiword, one word processor, and one music client?

If so, it might be interesting to look for even more lightweight alternatives to the default applications, and perhaps even completely remove the gnome deps. We could use transmission instead of deluge (no pygtk), mplayer instead of totem (almost no deps there), quod libet instead of rhythmbox (no gnome) and even something like wicd instead of networkmanager. I don't know what to do about abiword though, because it has in the last years gone from pure GTK+ to requiring all kinds of gnome deps.

What would you all want? Would you like simply "full" #! without the fluff, or even lighter apps?

I would like to add naim for chatting on the CLI. Also screen is great for multitasking without X.

Hello everyone. I am a linux user of about 4 years and over all this time I have had quite a distro shuffle. For the past 2 years however, I have been almost 100% Arch Linux, a very advanced and do it yourself kind of distro. I must say, however, that crunch bang totally blew my mind. I popped in the livecd and it ran faster than I could have imagined. I can hardly believe that I am installing an ubuntu-derivative as my main OS.

Congratulations on such a fine product! This is something I really think would be worth my time to help out with (I've already noticed some minor bugs that I could help squash). So, how do I get started helping out?
