I usually have this problem after a storm.
It's the router, just reboot it.
EXPLANATION:
This is just a guess, I am not an expert in radio waves and whatnot.
Lightning in the air creates distortions in the surrounding area, your router being a communication device, must accept these distortions as data transmissions.
However, seeing as these are random signals- the router mistranslates them and it causes temporary disruption of the signal for one reason or another.
Like I said this is just what I THINK happens.
Maybe someone here knows more about this stuff?

I never bothered to change it.

"EDT" is "supposedly" the standard for the US [I don't know if thats true or not,  nor do i really care]
I think thats why it's called Eastern Standard time.
now that you mention it- I might change it.
Thanks Toolz

Unfortunately no. I am not on vacation.
And Mr. Winterwrowd is about 100 miles away in the northern California office.
Thats what happens when you get promoted- they move you.
So, no, walking in his office right now is not very practical.

once you learn how the linux file structure works, you can litteraly do ANYTHING you want.
Thats the great thing about opensource, you dont need permission to change your own computer.

If the drive was formatted in FAT you can boot into a windows box and find a recovery program.
The only program I can trust has been "Recuva" it's freeware and it can be found at

A good mesure to always follow is to NEVER cut.
always copy and then once the copy is sucessful you can delete the origional.
pcmanfm is the default file manager and it has no "failsafe' once you delete a file in Linux- it's gone, bye-bye, asta la vista........you get the point. The only possible way you can recover a file is if the program that used it is still open. I am no expert on that particular recovery process, but the moderator "anonymous" should be able to explain it far better than I can.
I wish you the best of luck.

two of them: one called 'Constant Crash Event', and another called 'Hidden Bug Arises From Nowhere'.  lol

my experiences with Linux, while not event free, have been much more endurable.

OHHH!
it took me a while to get that one LOL!

Thats sounds like your laptop turns off the speakers when the lid is closed and turns then back on when it opens.
This sound is normal when you power on your computer, but not when opening and closing the lid.
try playing some music and then close the lid. if it's stops playing then my hypothesis is correct and you may have a loose power supply wire going to the speaker bar (located under the motherboard of newer laptops).
If you believe you have the skill- you can open up the case and look at it to make sure everything is tight.
I wish you the best of luck.
