Kind of...
but like I said, this network problem its present ever since ubuntu 8.04, something related to gnome.
And I know my video card never had a great driver for linux, because of amd support.

I use this pc mostly to browse, so having weasel close every time I'm watching a video is a problem. I was watching the google conferency and had to restart the browser 3x and the system once =\

I'm tired, I've been messing with my system the entire weekend 'till now, trying ubuntu, crunch, windows.  and although I love #!, windwos plays better with my card.

Its a pain, but im just not in the mood to go messing with anymore conf files, thank god for ninite though hehe

im out...

I see you guys when I get myself a better card or a all new pc. I cant stand firefox(should I call it weasel?) closing every 2 or 3 videos I watch... and no network to access my other files =\

Its gonna be boring months under windows, wish me luck neutral
Hope that once I come back gnome or whoever is responsible has a fix for this issue with the network...

I dont know what else to do.
I guess ever since ubuntu 8.04 my network doesnt work. Well, that is actually half true, I can see every pc and folder, but when I try to open a folder, FAIL.

From what I could find this seems to be related with gnome and samba, so yeah, the same thing happens on Statler.

I setup fusesmb to work with thunar, but theres still the problem of not being able to open folders.  After a lot of tweaking with the smb.conf, installing and removing apps, I somehow managed to have the folders open, just to see them disappear a second after.

Now the network is not even being mounted on the folder I had setup with thunar. And when they do appear again, the same thing happens, over and over again....

So anyone here had this kind of problem? Or at least know how to fix it?

Ahh just a note, I can browse my network just fine with firefox typing 192.168.0.x. everything is working there.

Also how do I install thunar-share? I tried with a deb, but when I open the window it says my user doesnt belong to the samba group or something.

Im just so tired of this...
If I go with windows I have my network ok, but its slow and lately it was freezing every phew seconds, a pain.
If I go linux my network doesnt work, flash videos crashes the system, or close firefox/iceweasel.  (but its still so much better than the pain that is to use windows now)

Welcome to #!Crunchbang/Linux and the #!Forums.

@vrkalak - razienwolf isn't that new to #!

True, but thks big_smile
I had my time with crunch, then ubuntu, then windows again, then arch, then windows... and so it goes.

Turns out I forgot to update after install lol
Watched a couple flash videos with no problem, but just to be safe I installed the combo flash killer/block.

Hey raizenwolf, glad you made the switch.

So am I. tongue

text install is not scary, its just thats a little annoying to reboot and select install since I was already there with the livecd on.

Yeah I noticed that after seeing how everyone was talking about the system and the change for debian, the comments were looking like a party lol

I will definitely look for a fix for the network, probably some settings on samba, I dont know.

on a side note; just had my first crash while watching a vimeo video. I blame my radeon 9600 that has poor support in linux sad
Should I install proprietary drivers or stick with the default ones?

So I decided to give statler a try since everyone was looking so confident with an alpha release.

Booted the live cd and as usual everything loaded extremely fast, after playing around with iceweasel I decided it was time to install. Now, wheres the install button? I hope it will be possible to install from the live session once it reachs final.

Anyway, reboot, install, everything going great, until grub2 decided to give me the red screen. scary... Reboot again, install again, and everything else is a breeze.

It doesnt even look as an alpha build (though I have nothing to compare too).

Im only having trouble setting fusesmb to access my network. I can see the network from thunar but when I try to open a folder it. never loads. I doubt this has to do with statler itself because the same thing was happening in ubuntu 8.04 and 10.04.

tl,dr

Amazing alpha build, I love it. big_smile

Can I ask here, why the name crunchbang?

I was thinking about this few days back, what's in the name crunchbang. What's is crunchbang? Is it related to the #! symbols? (I dunno how they are called in english hehe)

Nahh.

I decided to let it go. I actually dont need dropbox, I have an account, but at the moment is not a necessity.
It is probably just something wrong with my connection, it will work when I need it.

Sweet launcher o.o
I've got give this one a try.

And pardon me, but what is your gtk theme on the screenshot? The icons I've seen it before but dont remember the name.

Ohh about the obam menu, I dont like that many duplicate entries. I told about it on the "make more use of pipemeus thread" XD

I dont understand a bit about this kind of things.

I've always thought it would be a lot better to use uuid, especially when I have to take and install new hard disks. Later I've been just mouting disks with /dev/sdxy  (x the letter, y number) 'cuz Im extremely lazy for this now =\

Most probably this entry is pointing to a HD that doesnt exist or that doesnt have grub on it.

I dont exactly how this all (HD X,X) works, but you definitely have to edit this 0,7 to match you linux mint hd.

If HD0,0 is you sda1, and sda7 is where Mint is, then you would have to use HD0,4.
I'm only guessing, I'm not sure how it numbers them.

You can edit the entry pressing E while on the grub menu.

Have you seen this topic on ubuntu foruns?
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=442945 perhaps can help.

I figured it would do something like that.
But it only keeps there waiting to start, perhaps I didnt waited long enough?

All my icon was telling me is "Start dropbox", and if I clicked on it, it would try to connect and go back to   the "start dropbox" thing.

I dont even know if it is related but if I try to run dropboxd it claims I'm missing a binascii

So I installed the .deb, installed, opened nautilus and when I tell dropbox to start nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

I think it can't be that hard (again, I'm no programmer) to create a tasklist in the molds of docker or bb aplications to go with the openbox dock.

You can easily put everything you want inside it, so it would be a nice choice to use a tasklist inside it, IF it is possible.

There is already launchers, clocks, tray, pagers, to the dock. Put a tasklist on the list and that is on the way to become a toolbar on Openbox.

Mix that with a pipemenu to show the exactly Xfce menu, and will be the best WM ever.

Ok already is, although flux has some sweet tools, love tabs.

Edit

I think I should stop dreaming a little...

Lets just wait for OO3, I dont see why should come by default.

Most people just need a text editor like abi to get things done. Besides the fact that broadband is not a problem on most parts and you can easily use google docs or other to do the work.

If someone really, really, need OO3 then the best possible solution (that doesnt include following tutorials over the net) would be a script do the dirt work. I guessing it's possible, I dont understand a bit of programing. =p

Well that looks really cool

Unfortunaly (or fortunaly, I like my country hehe) I'm to far away of Europe =p

And, just to keep things more interesting you could add some shots of how the program looks, the quality of image.

/me love screenshots  =p

Personally, I really like the fact that Openbox's menu does not show icons, it allows the menu to load faster. I also think the menu looks cleaner without icons. Just my 2 cents.

Having options is always a great think. Isnt that what linux is all about? Choice?

I could be wrong but fluxbox has menus with a plugin, its not default. Openbox could have something like that on the future...

Speaking of which (dunno if that's how it's write) this thread is at the wrong place, shouldnt be on Openbox talk or perhaps Help and support?

Moc

My favorite player =p
I've been using for some time, and I loved it XD

You can press Q (shift+q) to exit moc for real, or mocp -x . And that's what I most love about it, No window, no tray, control from dmenu, and minimal use of cpu.

For now as far as I know Openbox doesnt support icons.

Perhaps in the future who knows. But not right now.

I saw that the other day.

Was going to post here but ended up forgetting.

lol
Im not the youngster around here =p

It would be really cool to have one of those maps pointing where crunch is getting more attention. But I see that crunch its already knowing lots of places around the globe. So cool.

Dream mode on:

Since crunch is based on a minimal ubuntu, it would be really awesome if we could choose what packages to install (from a list of default packages) Lets say, like debian does, if you want to install part by part you can, OR you can choose the desktop package and get all set up to you.

Of course this gotta be with gui. nothing against the keyboard and console (im using them a lot) but its so much easier and pretty hehehe

Dream mode off

Ok about the actual list...
I can't agree with lxpanel. Tint is really cool, but lxpanel offer more control and its easier to setup.

If it's going to take lxpanel out I would rather have pypanel as default, since it already comes with a tray.

The idea of having tint with trayer on top is cool, looks good, but its not that good when customizing. You have to edit tint, keep something closer to tray, then edit how the trayer autostart and then match them both to work together.

If not pypanel, lets make a little more use of the openbox dock.

Why not use bbdock to create launchers, docker to keep control of the tray, and perhaps some little script to control the volume?? Put them all on a dock and let them be side by side with tint or hidden (my favorite mode)

Trying something new.

A hybrid of dark theme with light colors.
The matching opentheme for the gtk is awesome, but I cant get used to clearlooks, too much of candido and rezlooks for me.

I really enjoy a lot more a light theme like candido mist, anyway I decided to give a try on this XD

I was using a dark icon set AllBlack but that would be too much black, cant stand all this black =p

Did you try others programs? Flash movies on firefox, totem, rhythmbox. and stuff?

I ask because I had problems with pulse, one hour it was working and another it was gone. Like I said, try changing to ALSA the sound output on a program and see if still doesnt have sound.

I had problems with the sound when using pulse.

Try changing the device to alsa or oss, on the program.

Also you can take a look at gnome-volume-control (just type that with gmrun - alt+f2). I find more polished than xfce4-mixer.

Did you had sound before or you just happen to notice there is none?
