Topic: how to restore Statler A2 default grub menu?

so i updated my sources.list (stupid me)... and after running an upgrade which included an update to grub i'd lost the default grub boot screen and gdm login screen.

doesn't apt-get normally prompt before replacing custom configs? it's tremendously irritating that it blew away my settings w/o asking if it's ok first.

i figured out how to restore the gdm login screen, and i reset the grub background image by modifying /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme to reference the image at /usr/share/images/desktop-base/grub-splash-crunchbang.png, but the menu that overlays the background is stuck in this horrid magenta, and has no frame like the default. it's a minor issue, but it's driving me nuts. any pointers? can anybody paste the default grub config so i can restore it? i've dug around and can't find it anywheres. sad

Re: how to restore Statler A2 default grub menu?

That's kinda weird. Not sure, but maybe if you post your new sources.list it might be easier to tell what happened.

I'm wondering the same thing also though about the menu, I installed LMDE on a another partition and let it install grub2 there also (in hindsight I should have not installed in LMDE but updated it from Statler right after LMDE install, updating it now even from Statler doesn't do anything though it finds the artwork just fine from what I can tell). But my grub2 menu is pretty bright now. There might be instructions here, but I didn't see anything about restoring the artwork and Statler style when I searched.

Re: how to restore Statler A2 default grub menu?

yeah, i had the same problem, there's lots of talk about grub, but not much about the menu here in the forums. The only changes I made to my sources was to switch to a closer mirror and enable debian multimedia repos. I'm not actually able to do any testing right now because i had to send the laptop into Dell for a repair sad (cat's spilled a glass of water onto it...)

Re: how to restore Statler A2 default grub menu?

Can you not restore your original grub configuration by doing a complete reinstall of grub2 from Synaptic?  I think this removes and reinstalls grub config files as well as the application and dependencies.

Re: how to restore Statler A2 default grub menu?

As it turns out my problem isn't display only, so it doesn't quite fit in this thread since nathwill and I have different things going on. The new LMDE install (secondary master) is actually in the drivers seat right now and my Statler A2 drive (primary master) won't boot without it connected. I might start a new thread though after I do some reading up on grub2.
