Topic: Check for Server Speed During Install/Update?

I installed Statler 2 on my office machine a couple of days ago, and the updates were excruciatingly slow (but browsing was fine). Apt-spy finally saved the day. Would Corenominal consider including this or an alternative as default after first install and also for system-upgrades?

Another choice would be netselect-apt

Re: Check for Server Speed During Install/Update?

That'd be fine too. As long as there's some way of automatically picking the fastest mirror. It seems such an obvious thing, I wonder why all the distros don't have it. It's not like pinging the mirrors takes a lot of time.

Corenominal, you copy?

Re: Check for Server Speed During Install/Update?

So, did you implement it yourself allready? How about finding a solution and providing us with a patch? I'm sure a feature request with some work done beforehand has a much higher chance.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Re: Check for Server Speed During Install/Update?

The solution is to use apt-spy or netselect-app. There is no patch; its just a program.

Heres a thread about netselect-app:
