Topic: Finally went to 10!

I have really enjoyed #! 9.04 and am fairly comfortable with it. I just built a new machine and installed #! 10. For the most part I am very impressed with this alpha 2 build. big_smile

The move the Debian has created a few issues for me though. I am not very familiar with Debian so trouble shooting is going slow.

Issue: iceweasel crashes with flash 10.1 when playing videos full screen. I am having a tough time figuring out how to get firefox 3.6.12 running. I am also having an issue with synaptics: when I click on repositories it just tells me to reload first and after reloading, same message. I was thinking of trying to allow testing or unstable repos to see if it includes a later version of iceweasel.

Can some one help me fix synaptic and guide me as to how to install firefox?

One last thing: I am very use to searching launchpad for ppas and adding the repos to try out different packages. Is there a suitable analogous site for deb packages?

Thanks!
Ryan

The best resource I know of for finding Debian repositories

                 http://sites.google.com/site/mydebiansourceslist/

One of the few not on the list is CrunchBang

Get Dropbox and an extra 250 mb http://db.tt/wAizqw0

The synaptic issue can be resolved by following the details here: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … 070pre1b1/

Linux Mint are maintaining a Debian build of Firefox. It's at 3.6.8 and I haven't had any issues with it. Instructions on installing it can be found at my blog.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you. Both fixes worked. Firefox is missing some images or something but nothing major. Hopefully it doesn't crash like iceweasel was.

Cheers!

Squeeze is testing right now, so it won't be very different. You can always change the repos by simply editing your sources.list file.
Just comment (#) existing lines and insert new ones with wheezy instead of squeeze. It's not recommended using the words testing and unstable because you may forget to change them back and then in the future it can be really harmful. BTW when you install something from a repo other than squeeze NEVER upgrade your system.

1. run apt-get update
2. install the thing you want but nothing more.
3. change back the sources.list file (put the # symbols somewhere else)
4. run apt-get update again

you can obtain the latest flash player anyways:
sudo update-flashplugin-nonfree --install --verbose

This package is for the Debian based LMDE release, not the main version.

I had read similar advice. Thanks for pointing this out; I certainly would have had problems. hmm I will try out the flash-nonfree plugin. The flash install from Midori and Iceweasel did not carry over to ff.

Re: Finally went to 10!

OK- I tried firefox 3.6.8 but it was painfully slow and I was having troubles getting flash up and running on it. Added the unstable repo for iceweasel 4.0b7 which I am pleasantly happy with. Firefox has been unistalled!

Thanks,
Ryan
