@gutterslob: LOL, would that not defeat the purpose?
I might be able to set the height attribute of the container, that way you will see the barcode when Adblock is enabled. I will give it a try...
UPDATE: done, the barcodes should now show regardless of Adblock.

1. Monolithic menu seems to be lost as random text rather than show up actually as a menu. I had mentioned this in my first round of feedback.
2. The pagination again is lost. In the 'light' version, there was a clear distinction with a black border. I guess just inverting that with a white border here would start sucking but some sort of shade of lighter grey might do the trick.
3. The border color used doesn't really seem to function as demarcation point for various sections of the page. Whole page looks like a single wall of text. I hear folks say 'u r a no good noob.... and all' and maybe I am but the philosophy of @#! (debian crunchbang) should not go overboard on being a anti 'light' by being twilight dark...
midnight dark is still ok (one can see clear boundaries during midnight as against twilight where boundaries are fuzzy and illusionary... campers might know what i mean)
4. The Quoted text gives the appearance of the main text and the actual text becomes understated. Even for a site where understatement is an agenda, this seems to have a negative effect. Ultimately, human eyes are trained to identify positives (as in photograph print) as against negatives (as in photograph negatives).
@Corenominal
Request: please do seriously consider providing an alternative widely used stylesheet option. I really like @#! as a philosophy, as a working OS, as a no nonsense OS and I keep getting back to the forums for the infinite support the community has and is capable of providing. I don't want to get bogged down by issues such as differentiating target text from the background and utility text for most part of time.
I know I'm being rough around the edges partly because of my writing skills but mainly because I just wanted to get the communication clear without ambiguity.

I think the forum looks too monochromatic now. Before certain parts used to be black like the parts where it shows the number of posts and actions like Move Topic etc. Also I think some of the forum section headings were black too. Having the different colors helps break the page into sections instead of looking at one long wall of gray and text. Just my $0.02.
Edit: aravinthrk beat me to it ![]()
Some points:
The forum posts get rendered to a fixed width panel always. This might be intended but it has the effect of a lot of (vertical) scrolling if I use a small window, and a lot of wasted space in fullscreen (or with a big screen)
The borders between the panels (posts) are nearly invisible. This is not so bad for the ones between posts, but the panels at the top and bottom are hard to recognize as panels on their own.
The pages at "Active Topics", "New Posts" etc. from the links at the top of the forum pages have a lot of line feed (is that the word for "space between lines"?). I would put them a little closer, especially as these pages are meant to give an overview i.e. a lot of info in small space.
I just realized the smilies and toolbar icons are monochromatic too. I miss the color ![]()
Edit: I noticed this misalignment. I think it has to do with the fixed-width:

I noticed that too, in Chrome. Are you using Chrome or Chromium? It does not seem to be a problem in my Iceweasel.
@aravinthrk & @luc, thank you for the constructive feedback, it is appreciated. ![]()
@everyone, just to say, I am aware that some peeps are going to struggle with the changes and I am listening to all. As always with CrunchBang, nothing is set in stone. ![]()
I like the new style for the Home page (though the left, darker screenshot looks strange on that background), and for the Blog (which is perfectly readable), but for a more structured place like the Forum I don't know... I'm not sure I could follow a long thread, I really feel lost.

Thanks. I have applied a fix, hopefully. ![]()
I created a userstyle for those who have troubles reading white on black. It's here:
http://userstyles.org/styles/40195
If Corenominal doesn't create an option to choose colors, this might be a solution. At least it is for now. ![]()
@Bobobex: You can create a pink style easily this way...

@Papanominal
Aah, the age old dark vs light battle.Personally, I like the new design and how the palette mimics your personal website.
But, it's still a good option to include a changable scheme. The are some people who'll simply refuse to read anything on a dark webpage, I've noticed. (yes, they're nuts, I know... but we must practice religious tolerance here)
I like "dark" themes for the most part, it's my eyes that rebel. I love the looks of some of them in the screenshot thread, but I know what it would do to my eyes in short order. And the "changeable" theme is here ... ![]()
Ladies and gentlemen start your colour pickers: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/92915/#p92915
@corenominal (new avatar!)
I like the new design, but it would be even better (IMHO) with dark grey text on light grey backround. Monochromatic smileys could remain.
Take a look at hup.hu, how easy can be to read it for long long hours: http://hup.hu/node/95581
I'm not suggesting you to mimic hup.hu design, but please think about the idea of using a less darker backround or a somewhat friendlier contrast. As I've noticed many people just strongly dislike dark backrounds on websites.
And I added a test shot of that code ... I LOVE IT!
Ack..
@Tunafish
Thanks a ton.
Atm only thing that I don't like is the rolling numbers under the barcode. Other than that I have to say I quite like this ![]()

Hey Hanna
Interestingly, bobobex is not overly keen on them either. Maybe I should work on my sense of humour.
Otherwise, cool, thanks. ![]()
I think this one looks a bit better:

How do you think?
@Philip
Maybe just the barcode, then?
I've been lurking on here on and off for the past couple of hours.
I must say it's quite soothing here . Sure, some of it's seems a bit simple and global stylesheet-ish, but I think it serves as a good starting point. Thanks a lot for this. You've saved an innocent bimbo from the trauma of retina-rape. Polarization of opinion will probably continue, so I'll just wait and see how it goes before I change my avatar to suit.
BTW, I actually prefer the BG of the quoted text bits (#222222), though that would probably be a bit much for most if used for the entire page:P
@Sector11
Glad you found a temporary compromise. Out of curiosity, is your workspace very brightly lit?
@boromeus
You think so?
Reminds me of the old Ubuntu palette, just more saturated ![]()
Edit: this might be a better "middle ground"

Is that Ubuntu brown?
Also thank you corenominal for the fix.
^
I don't think it's "Ubuntu brown" whatever it means.
I used the screenshot of the existing style and added a *bit* of red and even less green.

That's me in part: "@everyone" - It hit me like a ton of bricks today, and my eyes felt it ... they are still watering a bit from that first read, but I love the fix - an individuals choice:
http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic dark-side/
And .... I have a "semi-dark" theme thanks to pvsage & Tunafish that I can live quite nicely with.
In fact when my wife wakes up I'm going to show her this and maybe make it universal in IW. ![]()
BTW, I liked the "scrolling barcode" idea.... had me thinking for a second though. ![]()
@boromeus - I didn't mean it literally just that it reminds me of the old Ubuntu colors. Either that or a lighter-colored milk chocolate.
