Topic: When is the projected official release?

Hi - just wondering if anyone had an idea as to the projected release of "Statler"?  It depends on squeeze, right?  I'm on 9.04 right now and pretty happy.  Maybe I should just go for the Alpha 2 release but I like stability and really love my 9.04.

Thanks again for any insight.

Cheers!

Sorry, missed the thread a few lines down.  Ignore this post and gladly welcome a moderator deleting it.  I could not figure out how to do it.

Re: When is the projected official release?

Statler alpha 2 is actually far more stable than 9.04 ever was, at least in terms of reliability; with Squeeze transitioning to stable within the next few weeks, expect either a beta or final version of Statler shortly after that.

A while ago, the forum settings allowed a thread's OP to delete his own threads, and everyone could delete his own individual posts within a thread.  One time (at band camp big_smile ) a thread OP became disgruntled and deleted a large thread with a lot of useful information, so now only us Moderators have delete power...and we really don't like having to use it unless we're purging spam or removing some patently inflammatory remark.

I didn't know that.
(useful info, pls don't delete this thread.)

My guess would be - when it's ready wink

This has always been the "unofficial official" Debian answer - Testing will become Stable "when it's ready".
"He will drink no wine before its time."  Frankly, I've never had any problem drinking freshly-bottled vintages...

Re: When is the projected official release?

There should be an option to allow OP deletion if there are no replies to the thread.
This would allow the OP to delete in the event of noticing his mistake but would also hinder him from deleting a full thread.

This sounds reasonable.

I assume most people have seen this but for what it's worth...

Nice! I hope it will be my laptop's hopper stopper!

Re: When is the projected official release?

I read corenominal's blog post concerning this . . . and agree with everything he said.

I know the new #! will be "ready when it's ready" . . . I assume that Philip will wait for Deb6 Squeeze to be released as the new 'stable' first.

We will drink no wine, before it's time  but, I have a bottle of champagne on 'chill' for when it is.  cool

Re: When is the projected official release?

^ Actually that's "no wine before its time", which implies not drinking a wine before it has properly aged or matured.  Also, I thought it was bad for champagne to keep it deeply chilled for an extended period? tongue  Anyway, "It's always after 6:00 PM somewhere!"

Re: When is the projected official release?

Isn't it a bit silly to wait for the official release of a distro that says "may make your machine go CRUNCH and BANG!"? Take the risk now.

Wine - bah. Tastes like fermented grape juice. Beer, though... smile

Well, in the german speaking countries and some surrounding ones, "Federweisser" is a highly valued still fermenting young wine .... I love it -- as I do Crunchbang Statler alpha wink

re: Federweisser
I have no relationship to this enterprise, but spikeyourjuice.com sells champagne yeast and juice bottle water seals to make your own federweisser at home. I'm fond of cranberry/pomegranate.

Re: When is the projected official release?

Mmmmmmm...superfruit champagne!

I'm always a little hesitant about going off-topic in these threads, because us geeks have a tendency to run off on tangents.

Getting back on-topic, I plan to do another clean install when Philip "drops" the next point release of Statler, so I can see if there are any major changes from Statler a2.

I cannot wait for that - right now I'm on a really bad connection and would love it not to have to dedicate a few nights on updating. smile Also, I'm really keen on the newer kernel and hopefully the inclusion of my wireless driver.

Re: When is the projected official release?

Im pretty sure the kernel is staying at 2.6.32.

Re: When is the projected official release?

^  So far, the 'frozen' Debian Squeeze is still using the 2.6.32-25 Kernel.

Looks like 2.6.32 will be Kernel in the 'stable' release of Debian 6.0 Squeeze.

Fortunately, upgrading the Kernel in Debian is just a 'click' away.  lol

Re: When is the projected official release?

I really like the 32 kernel, seems to have everything needed across the board.  what's 32 -through--> current have to offer to those just using a pretty much intel based laptop??

Apparently the later kernels support TRIM, which is alleged to offer advantages on a SSD formatted as ext4...I've been using the Liquorix kernel on my netbook for a few days, and so far these claims feel apocryphal...performance doesn't feel any different from the Debian kernel...

Anyway, even Sid is still at 32.
