Topic: no desktop

i'm wondering what exactly causes #! to have no desktop?

Re: no desktop

No desktop...in which sense? No desktop wallpaper? Or no desktop management?

Re: no desktop

you can't place anything on the desktop

Re: no desktop

CrunchBang uses Openbox as Im sure you know and Openbox does not support icons on the desktop.

Re: no desktop

im in pclinuxos right now
its the openbox version and it does have icons on desktop

Re: no desktop

The icons are probably there because of PCManFM or some other program. Openbox by itself does not provide that functionality.

Re: no desktop

Maybe it's iDesk?

Re: no desktop

So it is possible to have icons on your desktop if you want them - you need to add something to put them there. An alternative to pcmanfm is xfdesktop - it'll bring in some xfce dependencies though, and add to the RAM usage a bit.

Re: no desktop

i remember trying that but i had problems with packages

Re: no desktop

As mentioned by anonymous you can have pcmanfm control the desktop which will place icons on it. The ability to do that is in the Preferences somewhere. I haven't used pcmanfm in a while so can't remember the exact location to set that option. Perhaps someone else can give clearer instructions smile

Re: no desktop

For v0.5.x, iirc it is PCManFM -> Edit > Preferences > Desktop.

For v0.9.x, I think you have to run "pcmanfm –desktop-pref".
