Topic: Right click desktop XFCE menu?

On Statler XFCE, when you right click the desktop, you get the applications menu.

I am trying to duplicate this on a fresh XFCE ubuntu minimal install.
However the closest i can get is having the regular right click desktop options, with an applications menu at the bottom.

Can anyone help me with getting it to mimic crunchbangs setup?

Thanks.

Re: Right click desktop XFCE menu?

Go to Desktop Settings > Menus > make sure "Show applications menu..." is checked then go to the Icons tab and change the icon type to None. You may have to toggle these settings to get it to work as the first time you choose None it may not take. This was an old bug that may have been fixed.

Re: Right click desktop XFCE menu?

Thanks a bunch omns, it was that last step of toggling that I didn't do. And i probably would've had a heck of a time figuring it out.

Appreciate the help smile

Re: Right click desktop XFCE menu?

Try right-click > Desktop Settings
Go to the Icons tab and under Appearance choose the Icon type "none".
You'll lose your desktop icons but get the menu you want.

(edit) Ah well Omns posted while I was dithering about... roll

Might be a bump, but I thought I'd post it anyway. Might be of help to other people:

This is one of those times when I think the GUI way would be easier smile

To figure it out yourself, the GUI is easier. But if someone has figured out that line of code for me and all I have to do is run it in a terminal, I think that's way easier: select text, ctrl+c, alt+f2 for terminal, ctrl+v, enter -> done in 3 sec!
