Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Technically, that ability doesn't exist in any WM.
Mod + Q is the equivalent or "openbox --reconfigure". They both reload the respective WM's config without restarting or killing apps. Whether the OB one is more "brutally forced", I do not know.
@gensym
I don't run GDM or Slim, so I'm not able to help you with your problems, unfortunately. If it does hang on you, why not try Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go to tty1 and kill scrotwm from there (pkill scrotwm), it should take you back to the GDM log-in screen after you run that. Not sure about Slim, though.
Seriously, how do you guys manage to crash ScrotWM so much?!! O_o

That was my standard way of handling it (see my first post) ![]()
Thank you guys all for your answers (2ManyDogs,el_koraco,gutterslob).
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
I...really do not want to use another WM. Ever. :lol; ScrotWM does a great job for me.
@gensym: Try Mod+Shift+Q. I use Slim and that command takes me to the login screen ![]()
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
...........Am I the only one who keeps reading it as 'scrotum'?
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?

No you are not. Gutterslob calls it that on a regular basis, and el_koraco did in the post above (you read that right).
It's an unfortunate name for an excellent WM ![]()

Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
My first reaction when I saw the name was "Seriously? A male body part?" Then I read it again. ![]()
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
For non English speakers it is not so intrusive when you see it the first time. ![]()
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
....Gutterslob calls it that on a regular basis,
Koleoptero ordered me to stop, (he probably has "issues"), so from now on, I shall refer to it as "Scrot Uhm"
Gawd!! .. Marco (the dev) is probably gonna hunt me down and kill me one of these days ![]()
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Version 0.11.0 is out:
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Is anyone using Scrotwm with multiple (In my case: 2) monitors, it seems for me that extending the screen is almost impossible to handle correctly, even with xrandr. I was trying so, but everytime I changed to a window on the second screen the whole screen would be moved on the first monitor (Which, of course, made the concept of a dual screen system unnecessary..).
Carpe diem? Too mainstream. Carpe Noctem!

Wow, and I already upgraded on Sunday to 0.10. UTF8 support, that was needed, great. I like already that my time/clock is localized.
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Yeah it's a pretty nice update. This wm is getting better and better.

works fine on my end using xrandr --output bla --auto --left-of --output blub --auto or something similar.
What scrotwm does tough is adressing your screens as seperate workspaces. You could try to use even numbers for the right screen and uneven ones for the left screen.
I kind of like this behaviour because it let's you combine your stuff more freely. Never had windows spanning more than one screen anyway.
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Apart from the great news that scrotwm 0.11 is now in Unstable and 0.10 made it into Testing there is hot news. I am still not sure if that is a joke. Marco want to change the name!

I must admit I am glad it is getting a name change it really loses its awesomeness when people see it as scrotum lol
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
@Iteo: Ok, thanks. Sure it did not seem to be a joke but I just could not believe it. ![]()

Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Nooooooooo!!!!
Scrotwm was ballsy!!
I mean, nothing gives quite a buzz like "Hey ladies, check out my scrotwm!! No nonsense and bloat free".
Spectrwm sounds castrated and queer. Like Ru Paul waving his hands while talking about window management. >_<
Bring back the balls!!

say "NO!" to a chemical lobotomy in your food
flattr me, thnx
Re: Getting Started with Scrotwm?
Has anyone tried version 1.0.0 yet? How stable are the new releases? To try it out, would I be better off just sticking to the repos?
One other thing: After reading through the entire thread, I'm still not 100% sure how to pronounce Scrotwm (or Spectrwm). I read something about the "w" being pronounced as a "u". Can anyone confirm this? I figure if I am going to start using this journey, I should at least know how to talk about it reasonably intelligently. Thanks.

That is some image
. And nothing says 'not' queer like "Bring back the balls!!" ![]()
Btw, why did they name it so in the first place? And why change it now? Its a tiling wm. Its not like it is gonna be a mainstream software in future, or ever! Spectrwm just sounds like some weird inbred cousin of unity.
