Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Just installed this openbox-wise, 'cause I wanted to check it out for my Lenovo Edge 11", which will show up tomorrow.
It seems to work nicely, but I got one question: How is it that Thunar still doesn't see the rest of the machines on your network? I've always found this really annoying as in Nautilus they just show up as default. I installed cifs-utils, but that didn't do anything.

Well - I guess that won't be in the repositories tomorrow smile

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Love it on the Asus 1015 pem.  Applied the Broadcom/Elantech/hotkey fixes and it's running great, 42 seconds from power-on to desktop/cpu-idle using autologin and boot booster.   It idles < 60 MB with parcellite turned off.  I couldn't be happier.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

That's it. I can't take it anymore. This "release" is now causing me to distro-hop.

...over to try the XFCE version. I've been loving my open-box install, but this new cd looks like a great time to try the XFCE side smile LOL

Yes, I must remember to do this. Thank you for the reminder. smile

I agree. It would be awesome to know what applications come default with this version of Statler.

Are you asking why the screenshots do not feature the default conky?

I should abstain myself from asking questions late at night smile Yes, that was what I meant.

Ah, okay, well, I did consider using the default conky, but decided against it. I cannot give any real reason why, other than I did not think there was much to gain by doing so. hmm

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

For screenshots on the main site, I think they should reflect the default Statler setup. You could always link to the forum to show user screenshots.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Finally found the time to put #! back on my home laptop yesterday, and only thing I can say is: thanks for this great release !!

Tried a lot of other distros since #! 9.04, but always ended up with a VERY #! like environment (traditionally Openbox, lately XFCE with tint2), be it in Ubuntu, Arch, Fedora, SUSE (!) or whatever ... still nice to be back home wink

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Should we expect a new release when the first point release for Squeeze arrives?

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Just wanted to add that Crunchbang runs fine off USB media created with Multisystem. Of course it doesn't install to hard drive from USB media, but hey...it runs live a treat.

I installed Statler xfce to my ASUS Aspire netbook and I love it. It loves great and works better. Ta.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

I updated via dist-upgrade to this version (recently running r20101205) but i miss the "new" background logo. Where can i find it, and where to put it ?

I'm running the xfce version and would like to change to openbox, can i just install it via synaptic ?

thanks for the great work!

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

1. CrunchBang wallpapers are located in /usr/share/backgrounds/. In Xfce you can just go into the Settings -> Desktop (Settings?) to change wallpaper.

2. Yes though you can also run "cb-welcome" in a terminal and it gives an option to install Openbox/Xfce.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Might by a n00b question, but why is #! called #! "10" <Date>. Why the "10" if it is now Debian/time based?

Something from the old days I guess. The previous version was based on Ubuntu 9.04, so the next version - Statler - was version 10. The date names came only when Statler was getting close to release: Corenominal decided #! was Stable and not in Alpha anymore, so to just leave that behind he started using the dates. I guess people are still used to Crunchbang 10 Statler.

Ok. Corenominal says here* that Wheezy will be #! 11, so I guess the numbers will just increment (can't quote because it's a closed thread).

Debian Squeeze was rumored for a 2010 release; the name "10" stuck, even though the release date slipped to 2011.

Anyways many CrunchBang users started using Statler in 2010 (replacing the obsolete 9.04) and the transition from Squeeze Testing to Squeeze Stable did not have much impact on us.

Re: CrunchBang 10 "Statler" r20110207

Thanks for this awesome release! smile

Yeah, I'm running !# OB on an Acer AspireOne netbook and loving it. I'm not yet brave enough to have installed it onto any of my "production" desktops, but I really want to. They're quad-cores, so #! OB would fly! smile
