Topic: Tritium WM??

Anyone here using Tritium?

I am fooling around trying out various tiling window managers and fired up Tritium (installed from repo) tonight despite not finding anything in the way of manuals, how-to's or so on the web. It turned out to be a random walk in the dark and I resorted to systematically trying out all keys with all prefix keys I could think of. This way I found F3 fires up something akin of gmrun and I could get internet access, Thunar, terminals and other tools running. I then came to think of having heard that Tritium is written in Python. I tracked down Tritium and indeed it was. I started reading the code which directed me to keys.py where I could read about key bindings. Still, dumb luck was how I managed to 'log out'.

There must be a better way...

Re: Tritium WM??

A WM written in Python? Now how can that be, as it sounds like it'll run rather slow due to the interpretation overhead

Sounds amazing though.

Re: Tritium WM??

Interesting.  I am going to have to look into that.... smile

Re: Tritium WM??

I am giving Tritium a second chance right now and speed is not much of an issue, lack of documentation is. Key bindings are somewhat off-standard and I find no documentation apart from the Python source code so usability up till now is a bit of random walk :-) So far my impression is that i3 does everything Tritium does but the user experience is better. Early days though.

Re: Tritium WM??

I gave up on it because I couldn't find any info.  I'm curious to hear how it goes for you though.

Re: Tritium WM??

I read that Tritium is inspired by ion.
Have you had a look at "notion"?

It's another fork of ion http://notion.sourceforge.net/

Don't hold your breath. I don't think I will invest a whole lot of time and energy on mastering Tritium. The Tritium project seems dead or at least hibernating since three or so years and my feeling is its drawbacks outnumber its advantages.
