Topic: Things to do with a VPS

I've been recently thinking about getting a small debian VPS to play with, but other than hosting a website, what are some clever/cool/random things you can do with one? I've been thinking of doing some torrents, running backups to it, and just learning more debian stuff. Any ideas?

Re: Things to do with a VPS

When you're out on untrusted/public WIFI you can SSH tunnel though it.

Re: Things to do with a VPS

I think i'd use it like you said: torrents, backups, ssh-relay, perhaps a CounterStrike server for when I get nostalgic tongue

Ohw, and plotting to take over the world, but that goes without saying

laptop: asus zenbook UX31 [debian wheezy, kernel 3.3.0-rc7-custom]
tablet: acer iconia a500 [honeycomb]
home: C2D E8500, 4GB RAM, 74GB Raptor HDD + 2.5TB in various HDD [debian squeeze, liquorix kernel]

Re: Things to do with a VPS

Thanks for all your suggestions! I've been meaning to try out minecraft, this sounds like the perfect excuse...

Just so you know, Minecraft servers are very CPU instensive. You'll be needing a gig of ram to comfortably host 8-10 people, in my experience smile
