Topic: Help send laptops (OLPC)s to Africa
Hi everyone,
Sorry to be so long winded.
There's a contest going on right now at http://winonegiveone.com/Default.aspx It's really aimed at children -- if you launch a action-figure "hero" to Africa, you get a chance to win an OLPC, and for every 1500 "heros" successfully landed, the company will send a OLPC laptop to a kid in Africa, up to 442 laptops.
I've been playing this every day. Between the crossword puzzle and the jumble, I land a hero in Africa. I do this not because I want another laptop, but because I'd like the company to pay for all 442 of the OPLC notebooks that they have pledged.
I've been keeping statistics (date, total heroes landed) since February. I graphed the progress using OO Calc. Bad news. Not enough heroes are landing on Africa to send all 442 laptops. The graph is pretty linear, but the slope is too small to reach 442 laptops before the contest ends.
So, if in the course of your day, you could drop a hero or two in Africa you could make some kid's day.
