Topic: update Chromium package
v10 went stable some days ago. In fact you could probably grab the package from the Unstable repo.
BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.

Thanks for the heads up. Are you running it at all or just sharing the news?
Already, have the Chromium repros added to my #! 'testing' sources.list . . . and I have Chromium 10.
# Chromium-browser is in Debian Tesing and unstable repos https://code.google.com/chromium/
# wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | apt-key add -
# or (gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv A040830F7FAC5991 && gpg --export --armor A040830F7FAC5991 | sudo apt-key add - )
# deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable non-free mainLast edited by vrkalak (2011-03-16 22:29:13)

Isn't that for Chrome? ![]()

I am using Chromium 10 but not on Statler ![]()

Yes, I've gathered that you don't use #! Arch is one distro that I have been looking forward to trying for a good while now. I'm going to hold off as Debian is not done with me yet. Much to learn.
Back on topic, I was using Chrome 10 unstable, a few #! installs ago
, with no complaints. However, I'm trying to stay within the debian repositories, with Opera being an exception. Chromium is an awsome browser. I just can't use it for downloads larger than 50 MiB, and it often fails sooner than that.
Once agaiin, thanks for the heads up. I'm upgrading tonight.
Isn't that for Chrome?
No, I don't have the Google-Chrome-browser installed . . . I use Chromium 10 or Firefox-4.0
I consulted the Giant Debian Repro List > http://sites.google.com/site/mydebiansourceslist/
There are repros for both, Google-Chrome and Chromium

Well you can get Chromium 10 from the unstable repo.
VirtualBox is your friend
I'm going to have to hold off on that. My one and only machine has now been commited to a debian core install in order to expand my knowledge and know how. #! is fired up from a USB stick. Quite a deep dive but I'm ready.

I'm heading over there now!;)

Most useful link I've seen in some time. Thanks. Now if we could just get you to stop saying "Repro" instead of Repo.
Forgive me vrkalak, I've never been a spelling Nazi before but it's just bugs me, like hearing people say "nuculer" instead of nuclear.

lol but IT'S just bugs me.... heheheh
I am using Chromium 13 grab from here http://build.chromium.org/f/chromium/snapshots/Linux/
I put it in /opt/ and I am very happy with it.
I suppose #!'s chromium package needs to be updated to version 11 now.
I suppose #!'s chromium package needs to be updated to version 11 now.
definitely
version 9 is way too old
Why don't you use Google Chrome in this case?
And now version 13 is available.
I upgraded chromium-browser to 12 when it was still unstable and found it to be exactly that. Hopefully version 13 is better.
Sorry for asking a stupid question, but how do I upgrade to the latest chromium?
I am confused because:
apt-cache show chromium-browsergives me:
Package: chromium-browser
Version: 14.0.835.163~r101024-1But about:version
tells me that chromium is only version 9.
sudo apt-get -t sid install chromium-browsertells me that chromium is already at newest version (but 9 is not 14...)
apt-cache policy chromium-browserThanks xaos52 - but the policy more or less tells me what I already knew: That chromium is old and that there are newer versions.
chromium-browser:
Installed: 9.0.597.45~r70550-1
Candidate: 9.0.597.45~r70550-1
Version table:
14.0.835.163~r101024-1 0
-10 http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages
13.0.782.220~r99552-1 0
500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ testing/main i386 Packages
*** 9.0.597.45~r70550-1 0
990 http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/statler/ statler/main i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/statusThis is my apt preferences file:
Package: *
Pin: release a=statler
Pin-Priority: 1001
Package: *
Pin: release a=squeeze
Pin-Priority: 500
Package: *
Pin: release n=sid
Pin-Priority: -10Now I guess I could add something lik
Package: chromium-browser
Pin: release n=sid
Pin-Priority: 1002But in the past I have always been able to install from a specifc repo tith the -t flag? like
sudo apt-get -t sid install chromium-browserEDIT:
Just Read The Fabolous Manpage about the target flag (-t):
This option controls the default input to the policy engine, it
creates a default pin at priority 990 using the specified release
string. This overrides the general settings in
/etc/apt/preferences. Specifically pinned packages are not affected
by the value of this option. In short, this option lets you have
simple control over which distribution packages will be retrieved
from.
So I guess the problem might be that statler has a pin > 990... I'll just change that real quick and get back.
Cheers.
EDIT 2:
It seems to work. Downloading right now :-) Thanks for the hint :-D

nevermind, you fixed it.
Yeahh - but thanks for the attention :-)
(and look at the forums - because I am probably posting another quirk in a minute :-) )

Hmm, might switch back. I've been using the chrome stable.
Better try it out.
How do I download and install the latest Chromium if I'm on Stable? I don't want Google Chrome...
I guess I don't? Stable = Chromium 6; Testing = Chromium 15 ![]()

Sorry but the easiest way would be Chrome on Stable. Otherwise you would have to fiddle with some obscure repos.
